Is this the most active Feldman's work or is it just this Tzadik version?

yeah i have that one. the etching got glued to the plastic envelope, and of course, like all picture LPs it has more surface noise than any normal LPs i have, at least new ones (and many older ones, too), because these lousy envelopes are obviously not enough to protect them. and then they don't look any better than normal cardpoard envelopes. i mean, what does is matter if the art is on LP itself or the package? i'll take jessica rylan's "new secret" as an exception, and even that i'd much prefer in regular packaging. in short, i hate picture LPs. people should stop putting them out.

it's true, picture discs are crap, why not just put out a flexi disc. i must however correct you guys, the lanthidine LPs aren't etched, but silkscreened. etching would be carved into the vinyl with no ink of a different color to come off on the plastic sleeve. great series though, i'm glad i bought all of them.

Well, you didn't include the title so people could see what it was. I'm guessing it's Patterns in a Chromatic Field. It's not as sedate as most later Feldman.

And I don't know about "active," it's an unfortunate way of thinking about it. Try some of his music from the 50s and 60s. (Whatever happened to other ways of thinking about composed music, like its melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic language? As if it's all just so much undifferentiated "activity" or "gesture" that can be charted in terms of more or less.)

Yes, it's "Patterns...", and I forgot to write the title. I wrote active just because it sounds very different from the other things I've heard. I think there are other releases of this work (like the one on HatHut) so I was wondering if they sound different from this one. However I like it a lot.

Patterns... is great, and I know what you mean by "active", there is certainly more variation in that piece than much other Feldman.

The Hat version is my favourite, its slower, quite a lot slower, a good twenty minutes if I remember correctly, though the Tzadik is a nice recording too.

From what I recall the hathut version of Patterns is more like 50 minutes in length, broken up into two sections across two CDs.
One of my favourite Feldman pieces by far.

no, it's 105 minutes on the Hat Art version, 80 on the Tzadik. agreed that I prefer the Hat Art, and also that it's maybe my favorite non-Tilbury Feldman recording, and that the Tzadik version is also pretty good (I played the latter as intro music for Dion Workman's solo set at the first ErstQuake, he was pretty into it).

What I meant Jon is the hathut version is split into two 50 minute pieces....50 + 50 = 100 minutes or so.

For some reason, I've never listened to this until now. I've had it for more than a year, but just never listened to it, I think because of some weird and completely unsupported preconception I had about what it would be like. Anyway, it's sweet so far. So much stuff going on.

There appears to be a problem with the first track, though - it's just silence, occasionally punctuated by crackles. Maybe the mp3 is corrupt?

I apologize for being vague on the details, but I read not too long ago that there is only one flexi disc pressing machine in North America, and that it is in need of repair. I guess Black Dice wanted to put their most recent single out on flexidisc to accompany the art book of the same name, but were unable to due to this situation.
