Unfortunately I don't believe so. I'm Michael. Really strong gig though, thanks for coming through town. That Rhizomatic dude does a good thing. The scene here as far as noise-ish stuff is super young (which is a healthy thing--Shiflet can expand on this maybe) and I'm perenially the older (28) sheepish mook in the back of the room. Next time you come through I'd love to have a Pabst though.

woah... totally forgot about this. if ever a pop record deserved more attention this might be the one. ever hear howard hello?
Yeah, Howard Hello is pretty damn good too. Marty Anderson can do no wrong. Have you heard his Jacques Kopstein album? Not as good as Okay, but still pretty good for a pop record. Also, I managed to download off of Soulseek 2 years ago some demo tracks that he recorded. I have no idea how I found it, and I've never seen it again. You can tell with the demo tracks his shift from the Kopstein to the Okay material.

Yeah--your show before Shiflet was amazing. You definitely should hook up with New Music Circle. Christman Studio is the place to play in town, you'd dig it.

and a few that were so fucking good i had to bump this thread :

Image

english

i've been sleeping on joe's work for sometime and, good lord jesus up above in the heavens, was it worth the wait! it's 7:30 am and i'm obliterated and this shit is blasting in my headphones and rewiring my fucking skull. fucking mad props.

[halfway through the last track just scared the shit out of me! hahahahahahhaha]

Image

4g - cloud

of course i knew this was going to be stellar. so stellar that hipster chick and i were saving it for an upcoming lsd trip. however, when hipster chick's computer broke while we were on ecstacy a few nights ago, the only disc in the house (except for shit that would be totally inappropriate on drugs) was 4g. we listened to it twice through at full volume while painting. totally sublime.

god - anti-sex, anti-wiretapping

i'm a convert. amen.

david kirby - maximalism

i guess it's a conflict of interest to list one of my works in a best-of thread, but since it was released at the beginning of 2005 (and is an mp3 release), i think it's been overlooked. so for those of you who haven't heard me yap about this before, maximalism is a sound collage consisting of approx 25,000 1-2 second clips culled from my entire music collection (http://www.homophoni.com/sources.html), arranged in a semi-coherent fashion. it took almost a year to complete--spending as much as 8 hours a day cutting and pasting. but in reality, the actual piece isn't as important to me as the ideas that have developed because of it. i admit it's a bit goofy and childish, but i'd like to hear all of the sounds of the universe compiled into one ever-changing and continually morphing collage. not a one-time "release", but a real-time sound object in web space--like a giant universal rubber-band ball of sound. anyone could log in and upload whatever they wanted: field recordings, albums, original music, spoken word, noise, answering machine messages, sex, animal sounds, whatever... software would then take the input and plaster it on to the collage using an elegant algorithm, with the piece getting longer as denser and time passes (but not so dense that it becomes noise). people could then login and hear the collage real-time as it's being added to.

so go ahead and listen to the piece (http://www.homophoni.com/homo004.html), and if you're inspired and would like to help make this idea a reality then contact me! i need a good programmer more than anything else right now.... :)

most honor,
david kirby

remarkably enough, since I really don't like the vast majority of new releases, I can second every one of david's four choices above. 4g is obvious, but the GOD and English discs are both superb (and based solely on the strength of those, I invited both to the next ErstQuake) and would be on my own list if I still made them (which I don't).

I was a bit hesitant to check out David's Maximalism piece, but it also is very strong, and deserves mention on a 2005 list, as I told him a few months back. check it out yourself (link in his message)!

I have to agree, that Maximalism piece is excellent.
Not that my opinion holds anything resembling weight, I'd recommend those who haven't heard it do so.

...and it really doesn't sound like anything I expected it to sound like from the description. Very interesting.
