true. anything you do involving music manipulation outside of itunes is probably not something apple is going to provide customer support for.

Yeah, this is the kind of thing I wanted to avoid. Mass-mp3 players should be portable hard drives that play music, to me. Stylishness is about the last thing on my list of criteria.

Like I've said I don't have an iPod but based on discussion I've had with computer savvy owners I'm not sure this is true. You can mount it just like a normal drive, set it to reveal hidden files and all your audio files and folders are then visible and can be moved/deleted etc. This however would screw up any playlists.

(on edit, actually yeah Apple probably doesn't provide customer support if you do this but nothing inherent to the OS stops you)

right. it's cool to hear that even in MacOS a hack is overkill.

now if i could just get my mac to communicate with my dell jukebox without a virtual pc...

yeah, it is really easy to bypass itune to manage your physical files, i have tried it on my 30gb ipod with Mac.
The battery and its meter on the screen are not very reliable, but i wont be upgrading until i see some 100gb or more ipod. anyway, i should find some reviews on the DMC products.

Those instructions are pretty convoluted just to see hidden files.

Of course, on windows, all you have to do is turn on 'view hidden files', enable disk use on the iPod, and search for the song you want with explorer.

Of course, it works exactly the same way on the Mac, except it's two steps instead of three.
