There are so many online arguments about Simmons, his potential upside and the likelihood of it happening.

Gasol was a better fit in the 2018-19 playoffs but he was just a rental. JV is a good, young player who is likely to re-sign with Memphis. Both teams won this deal.
The CEO of the Nets and the President of ROC Nation are brothers so pencil in Kyrie as a Net. It's probably already agreed to (verbal tampering) though it's possible that Kyrie could get cold feet and join LeBron and AD in LA.
The Nets are considered the favorites for Tobias Harris, too. I watched a lot of their games this year and they were my #1 team in the Kidd era because I liked the team and hated Isiah Thomas, who was running the Knicks. PBP man Ian Eagle and RJ, who is one of the rotating analysts are my favorite announcing team so they may be my #1 team to follow next season.
There won't be any odds-on favorites to win the title next year but barring startling off-season moves Milwaukee will be the best team on paper if they retain their key players.
I was more disappointed with Ben Simmons than any player in the league this year. If he could only develop a mid-range face up shot like Shaun Livingston of two years ago, he'd be awesome. It wouldn't be hard but he'd have to put in the time.

I hear Thomson has a torn ACL.
And thus departeth from its oracle the team of destiny for the new millenium.

That Draymond shot in the first quarter was ruled a two and wasn't even reviewed! I wondered about it at the time. Breen thought is had been ruled a three but the scoreboard only advanced by two points. Watching the replays, including the ones in the comments I conclude his foot appears to be behind the line. Shocking that it wasn't even reviewed. The Warriors coaches should have said something to the officials.

I hate to defend the zebras for anything but someone in a video booth with HD should review those constantly and adjust the score when appropriate. It's too much of a bang bang game to expect refs to be eagle eyes on something extremely close like that and then miss violations happening above the floor level.
That said I agree with the Hornster except it only went six.

Re: NBA 2019 Playoffs
Hah. Well, it was a best-of-seven series! I honestly can't remember when so high a percentage of replays showed the refs were clearly wrong. Way more than 50%. I'm ready for the whole thing to be taken over by robots.Captain Hate wrote:I hate to defend the zebras for anything but someone in a video booth with HD should review those constantly and adjust the score when appropriate. Re: NBA 2019 Playoffs
The plays that get me are fouls on rebounds where two guys have their arms locked simultaneously and one guy gets called while the other goes scot free. I guess the right thing to do is reward whoever was in better position even though that doesn't always happen. You've gotta call something to make sure things don't get too chippy and double fouls are almost always unsatisfactory except for getting control of the game. Kind of.
Before this series I hadn't realized what a punishing player Kawhi was. I knew he was strong but everyone was bouncing off him when he went hard to the rack and he walked away unfazed.

Yes. He may not look as strong as LeBron, but it seems he is. I didn't realize that either.
But if fatass uses the expression "grown man" in reference to him or something he does one more time, I might have to stick a pencil through my ears.

Toronto couldn't even get home with the trophy before the landscape shifted. Happy draft, everyone.

Re: NBA 2019 Playoffs
I've been thinking about this a lot and I've come to the conclusion that Pop's system will never showcase a player like Kawhi to his maximum advantage (I'm sure abbey would agree with this) and that's why Kawhi and his entourage wanted out in addition to a larger market. I remember when the Spurs beat the Heat and Pop said that he was always after Kawhi to shoot more and I thought that was 100% bullshit and that Leonard did exactly what his role in Pop's system dictates he do. That's also why an emotionally fragile player like DeRozan landed in the perfect system for him.walto wrote:Yes. He may not look as strong as LeBron, but it seems he is. I didn't realize that either.
Before LeBron went to the Heat and they were speculating on where he'd end up, the Spurs were the last team I thought of. Pop may openly admire his talent and like him as a person but there's no fucking way he wants such a ball dominant player on his team.

Re: NBA 2019 Playoffs
Kawhi's highest regular season rates of shooting and assisting were in his last healthy season in San Antonio. He was showcased slightly less in his first season in Toronto but his rates in both categories jumped in the postseason this year. Did you read anything to indicate that he had any beef that didn't involve his quad injury?Captain Hate wrote:I've been thinking about this a lot and I've come to the conclusion that Pop's system will never showcase a player like Kawhi to his maximum advantage (I'm sure abbey would agree with this) and that's why Kawhi and his entourage wanted out in addition to a larger market. DeRozan shot less frequently for SA than in any of his last five years in Toronto and got to the line much less though his assist totals were the highest of his career. BTW, the Spurs were +0.5/100 possessions when DeRozan was on the court but +5.5 when he was off. In the Spurs 7 playoff games, admittedly a small sample, they were outscored by 8.7 when he was on the court but outscored the opposition by 17.1 when he was off. Aldridge also had negative plus/minus numbers in both the regular season and the playoffs. The Spurs won 45 games because their non-stars grossly exceeded expectations. The Aldridge/DeRozan pairing was a failure.
Re: NBA 2019 Playoffs
The telecasts would be so much better if fatass were fired, Van Gundy got demoted to sideline reporter and Doris joined Breen in the booth. Breen, JVG, Doris would also be fine. Fatass is a terrible influence on Van Gundy.walto wrote:

Marv's eyes have failed him; he should retire. CWebb is so bad he makes Reggie Miller seem competent.

I was previously far from the biggest Warriors fan in the world but it's hard to imagine a team being classier in defeat than they have been. They've set the bar high and made me do a retake.

Re: NBA 2019 Playoffs
You are right. I find myself with tremendous respect for your team's former GM, who extracted more from the Lakers than was thought possible when there were no other serious bidders! I am very curious about his next move, which will probably be a trade involving the #4 pick.Captain Hate wrote:I was previously far from the biggest Warriors fan in the world but it's hard to imagine a team being classier in defeat than they have been. Gilbert screwed up badly by undervaluing Griffin who, as you said, came out of that well placed for the future.
