Feldman Accusations

Tough to read. Interview needs Google translating and comment thread linked has messages from Marcus.
Posted with only that comment, and because this seems not to have had much coverage.

Re: Feldman Accusations
Thanks for posting this. I was completely unaware of these accusations, which are certainly troubling. Always important to broaden our perspective, for better or ill, particularly on such an iconic figure as Feldman.

Yeah, alongside Xenakis he's the closest thing I've ever had to a "hero", I guess. The music is still the music, but rightly or wrongly I know a lot of us are invested in the biography, the interviews, anecdotes etc. and this has to be part of that.
I feel crappy for her - I like her work and I always thought it must be difficult to know that when people Google you they find 100x more about a composition by your teacher. But if this is how that period was for her* then that's so much worse.
Particularly crappy now that just this one story is bigger than her work - a good chunk of the top hits for her are about it.
It made me more than anything want to start a thread about her own work, which is good but not discussed much, and not recorded much. I'll start one soon, separate from this, because unfair to continue discussing her work under this shadow.
*(there are only men on this forum now I think, and I *really* don't want this thread to decline into a bunch of men evaluating her claims, as the linked thread kind of did. If that starts I'll not engage with it. I'm just saying that whatever else, this is clearly how that period was for her)

Re: Feldman Accusations
Many of us on a Feldman forum were getting anxious
about Bunita's mental state because of many of the things
she was posting there - even to the point that in November of 2014,
there was a serious call out to folks on the list about her possibly doing
some cRaZy and dangerous things: by "cRaZy": destroying Feldman original manuscripts -
by "dangerous": actual "self-harm." After a subject line that read "Bunita Marcus Needs Help"
and much discussion and possible interventions over the next months,
it was decided by the head of the forum to completely close it for good.
This was, to most of us, a rather sudden and drastic decision that took place on Jan. 4, 2015.
In light of all of that activity (and the date of the accusations in the link above),
you can come to your own conclusions.

Re: Feldman Accusations
That doesn't necessarily cast doubt on Marcus' accusations, does it? It would make sense that someone (Marcus) who was facing poor health and increasing age has less to lose by publicly facing prior trauma. And in doing so after repressing something for so long it could be like reliving the trauma all over again.rostasi wrote:Many of us on a Feldman forum were getting anxious

Regardless, a more important point is that our "enlightened" heroes, as possibly with Feldman, can be just as blinded and prone to despicable things as anyone.

well put Bryan.
Probably an idea to avoid using googly eyed terms like "cRaZy" when talking about the mental health issues of people not that distant from this community.
