I thought a nice touch was using the sprinklers to differentiate where the parched fairway stopped and the parched green began. Plus the best comment from yesterday was "Well he missed it coming and going" on the same shot by Grace.

I don't disagree with what anyone's said re: USGA/Chambers Bay. Horschel was an embarrassment, some huge putts were sunk all day Sunday, I'm not so much offended by the fescue on the greens. If pressed however, when you have the longest, most accurate and precise drivers in the world threading a needle only to have it roll backward 30 yards into hay, that is weapons grade horseshit. That's cute. But what fun TV golf. Pulling for Oosty so hard only to see that charge on Sunday. What Chris said, back nine of the Open on Sunday on that goat farm, that shit never happens even on tranquil layouts. I went to Pinehurst Sat. & Sun. last year, each day we found ourselves following Oosty due to the ball striking (you can hardly hear his iron shots connect). And night golf! So great. Phil has always been known as a big time gambler and in cases like this the gamblers aren't persons of interest. You'd think the World's Leader in Sports Entertainment Broadcasting would have better things to run with than a water is wet article.

I just don't pay enough attention to the politics of professional golf. I'm either out playing it, or watching a tourney on tv.

I knew Phil was kind of a douche, but that was about it.

One of the things that's really been burning me out about sports is the WWE-style "story culture" they all seem to be turning towards. The off the field bullshit just becomes too stupid to bother with anymore. In that regard, I'm glad I never paid attention to it when it came to golf.

The funny part for me is that when I watch golf, I really don't even care about where a ball went, what kind of second shot they set themselves up with, etc. I'm too busy studying the physical mechanics of each player, just to see if I can pick up something from them in my own game.

Spieth and Dustin Johnson are tearing the course up early on (paired together), both 6 under through 11 holes.

Tiger, on the other hand, is at +4, he is in 85th place out of 87 golfers currently. Joe Pos points out that Spieth is now 43 shots ahead of Tiger cumulatively at the majors this year. that's a lot.

Whistling Straits is a pretty setting. The mosquitoes can fly off with you after dark, unless the wind is blowing. Which it often is.

The country clubbers in the USGA really stepped in it at the Open with keeping DJ in suspense by not ruling promptly on whether or not to penalize him for not doing a fucking thing wrong. Any time you have the Golden Bear, Eldrick, Rory and Speith ridiculing you on Twitter there's an iron clad lock that you screwed the pooch. Fortunately Dustin for once didn't melt down but just bore down like he couldn't wait to crawl up the Great One's daughter's ass like her miniskirt was doing, and finally delivered on his awesome promise without having to fire his useless brother as his caddy.

I know, that was so ridiculous. Suppose there were a one stroke differential in either direction going into the 18th. You need to know whether to play it safe--maybe because you're up a stroke, or go agressively--perhaps because you need a birdie to tie. That was about the stupidest thing I've ever seen.

The final round was tailor made for watching via DVR. I fast forwarded everything that wasn't Stenson or Phil. It didn't take very long to watch the two of them play 18 holes. Very exciting, excellent golf.
