I thought we'd all be talking about Peyton Manning's atrocious game. I wonder if he's coming back next year.
1. Sure, the reversal was correct considering the idiotic rule that is in place.

2. I mind it, and quite a bit. Just because the NFL (R.I.P.) has gone out of its way to strip defensive players of almost any way of defending, that doesn't mean I want to see receivers punished as some kind of balance. I want to see football played, you know, like it should be played. Enough of this micro-managing bullshit. Two feet and possession. Sounds pretty goddamn fair to me. And it seemed to work just fine before. And if you're a receiver padded to the gills, there's nothing "defenseless" about you.

The End

3. I don't feel the need to kick Peyton when he's down, but as Cappz stated earlier, it's time for him to retire. I'm pretty sure Peyton knows that, too. He'll probably let the Superbowl play out and announce his retirement shortly after.

So you don't mind the Megatron rule? I find that very surprising coming from you.

Oddly enough, I actually don't mind that one. Now Gordo would be the one to confirm or deny, but it seems to me as though the rule has done exactly what it intended to do, which is encourage a team to go for it on fourth and shorter yardage when they're looking at a 50+ yard FG.

I think it is kind of atypical of me but when I was waiting for a ruling on the reversal I was saying to myaelf "they've got to reverse this unless they changed the Calvin Johnson rule". Let me put it this way, even though I think it's a dumb rule I understand that they regard pass receptions differently from "the ground can't cause a fumble" in running plays. All I ask is consistency in how the rules are applied and this fit the bill imo. This had nothing to do with which team I was rooting for and readily admit that if I was a Plops fan I'd have been pissed off, mainly at just thinking life sucks.

evidently Manning tore his right quad on Dec 14 against SD and has been playing with that ever since, so maybe he won't retire as everyone is expecting.

Damn, thanks for that info about Manning, abbey, because that changes everything imo.

[edit] Welp almost everything; I don't think it's a coincidence that he's getting injuries at his age.

Changes nothing in my mind.

I'd rather see him go out while his dignity is still intact rather than meekly shuffle off a shell of himself like Marino did.

Sums up my thoughts on Ryan going to Buffalo perfectly.

And this passage is especially hilarious:
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that the plan is for Ryan to bring in Greg Roman as the offensive coordinator. Roman has experience nurturing young passers in Alex Smith and Colin Kaepernick, during his time with the San Francisco 49ers.
Nurturing young passers like Alex Smith and Colin Kaepernick! Why not just set that resume on fire and flush it down the toilet right now?! Still lots of life insurance to be sold out there, Greg.

There's a certain first time HOF eligible QB who knew when the right time to leave was.

That just made Act 3 all the more implausible.

Nice link on Rex which certainly explains your points, although I'm not sure Atlanta is that much of an upgrade with Matty Slush.

That is true.

Rex wanted to go to Atlanta, but the Falcons weren't prepared to make an offer and Buffalo made one.

Ah, I wasn't aware of that, Gordo. Well, I certainly wish him the best. I think you and I both really dig what Buffalo has put together defensively. But man, that offense is in horrible condition. I'd prefer the Jets skill players over what they currently have in Buffalo... :|

You mean the stiff arm, or something else? I love the stiff arm. Maybe my favorite play. I wouldn't want that to go away.

stiff arm is fine, it just seems unfair to me that in an era where defenders have to walk on egg shells, ball carriers get to punch them in the face on every play and that is legal. stiff arm should be legal, just not above the shoulders IMO.

I am among the "I like the fact the running back can punch defenders in the face" crowd, I guess. I love physical, defensive football, but the stiff arm is one of the few ways an offensive player can turn the tables and dish it out a little.

I have to admit that when jon first posted his disdain, I thought little of the fact that ball carriers could do that.

But, after thinking about it, thanks to jon bringing it up, I have to admit that I can see his point of view. Any other player on the field does that and it's an illegal hands to the face penalty. And while I definitely do not agree with Gordo and Cappz concerning the Megatron rule, I do agree with Cappz that consistency in application is key. So if a defensive player doing that to an offensive player, or an O-lineman doing it to a DL/LB, is illegal hands to the face, then what the fuck?!

I'm onboard with jon on this one.

BTW, does anyone else get as irritated with the proliferation of ball carriers carrying the ball in the wrong hand as I do? I see it WAY too often these days. I attribute it to poor coaching.

In the Seahawks/Panthers game Jonathan Stewart's first fumble of the game came in that first drive where he was running down the left sideline with the ball in his right hand. Luckily for him, the fumble went out of bounds. I was explaining to Wynton that he had the ball in the wrong hand, and reviewed the play and showed him what I was talking about. Later that same game Jermaine Kearse made that insane one-handed TD catch down the left sideline. What's the first thing he did once he had possession? Switched the ball to his left hand.

Fundamentals, folks...

Howdyose, John.

That may seal the deal for Manning.

Ohio St.'s main RB tonight can only carry the ball in one hand due to a broken hand earlier this season, curious to see if that is a factor tonight (it wasn't in the previous game when he ran for 200+).
