SEA has only allowed a total of 39 points during their six game winning streak, wow.

Terry Pluto made the point today that the Browns went into the tank when Miles Austin suffered a kidney injury and was lost for the season. He was by far Hoyer's most reliable receiver in terms of running his routes precisely, making adjustments if the play broke down and snagging balls that were thrown where only he could grab them especially across the middle. I hadn't thought of that but the time of his injury was when the Browns offense went in the toilet.

Dalton may be a nice guy, but he really is a shitty NFL QB.

Two streaks ended yesterday. Adam Vinateri missed his first FG of the season and Steve Weatherford had the first punt blocked in his career.

This rundown by Pluto actually makes me optimistic for the future of the Browns:

My personal fave of the streaks ended over the weekend was Buffalo finally winning at Gillette.

Re: NFL 2014
Finally gave into the lure of the idiot box and watched about two minutes of the Lions-Packers game yesterday. Packers run three plays in a row and a delay of game penalty to milk the clock, a timeout after the stop on third down would have been nice. A holding penalty on the subsequent shanked punt pins the Lions inside the 10, and Stafford throws the ball away while in the end zone on first fucking down. If they manage to win next week (without Suh, nice job) they'll likely be back at Lambeau the week after. Shoot me now. Nags, leave some ammo in the gun this time...
On the bright side, San Francisco is coachless (and I'll address this on the other thread). Well, well, well.

Re: NFL 2014
For the record I thought that reversal of the two point conversion by the Lions yesterday to be a real head scratcher because in none of the replays did I see convincing proof that the ball was short of the end zone when the knee hit. I thought the call of intentional grounding in the end zone was sketchy also although Stafford got away with pulling a Brady earlier in the game and got a fourth down roughing call to keep a touchdown scoring drive alive.
I've badmouthed Stafford enough for his entire career but he was stinking up the joint yesterday until he finally completed a short pass after which he was throwing precision darts all over the field. It never ceases to amaze me how much of a factor confidence is even at the pro level.

Suh should have gotten a longer suspension.

I've meant to ask this before, but when people post a link, please put a few words describing whatever you're linking to in addition so that others don't have to click through if they already know the story or aren't interested? it's obviously not a big deal, just asking, thanks.

Manziel is getting trashed so thoroughly I suspect that late tonight when it's real quiet, I'll be able to hear Alice Davis screaming from Hell for the Raidazz to trade for him. He's a little undersized though...
Exactly who do the 49ers think they can get to replace Harbaugh that will do a good job? There are a *lot* of head coaching vacancies so I'm glad the Browns are sitting pat. Somebody should really pick up Chudzinski though.

Now the suspension has been lifted and he's just fined. I don't get this; everything looked cut and dry. What could possibly have happened in the appeal process to change things. Is there a worse run league than the GFL?The G Man wrote:Suh should have gotten a longer suspension.

Re: NFL 2014
it's really a joke. I'm still not quite over the play a couple of weeks ago in NE/Jets where they measured on a late third down for NE, they obviously came up short but still gave them the first down. so Ryan challenged it, and it was somehow upheld. never explained, obviously wrong, clinched the game. ugh.

Re: NFL 2014
Listening to a local radio show devoted strictly to the Browns, which I avoided through the regular season, on their end of the season wrap up there was a huge laundry list of things Josh Gordon did that really highlighted what a disruptive POS he was. Thinking back on it, Cris Carter's brutal analysis of Gordon at the beginning of the season, which a lot of people including Michael Irvin thought was too harsh, was very 20/20. I'm sure there's a bigger fool somewhere in the Goodell Football League who will take a chance on him because, no matter how that last game suspension affects his free agency options, he's surely played his last game for the Browns. Everybody covering the team agrees that Pettine wants no part of him.

Cappz, when we were talking about Gordon and Moss last night, I forgot to mention Odell Beckham.
If his rookie season wasn't a fluke, he should be the best WR in the NFL for the next decade plus.

Scott! I can't believe I'm saying this, but I missed you...
yeah, Beckham was unbelievable, dude only played 12 games and put up the numbers that he did. hopefully he can stay healthy, what a superfreak...

Yes we did neglect to mention that incredible talent. Now that Scottie is back is it too much to expect Schau to show up and give us the Rams lowdown?

Re: NFL 2014
I can cover that as I saw every Rams game this season (with that defense, they are simply far more interesting than the Chiefs).Captain Hate wrote:Yes we did neglect to mention that incredible talent. Now that Scottie is back is it too much to expect Schau to show up and give us the Rams lowdown?
The Rams are a QB away from being a very dangerous team. And a team that could go deep into the playoffs. They have a fairly stout three-headed running game that benefits mostly from the excellent blocking the O-line and TEs provide. Cory Harkey and Lance Kendricks may not be the best pass catching TEs out there, but they're both towards the top of the league when it comes to run blocking. Tre Mason was last years Zac Stacy. I just hope that next year he isn't this years Zac Stacy.
And if they get Brian Quick back at 100% health, the fivesome of Quick, Britt (as hard as that is to believe), Givens, Bailey, and Austin should be one of the best WR corps in the NFL.
Their defense doesn't even need to be discussed. We all saw how fucking badass they were this year.
BTW, I think Britt is a FA this year. I certainly hope they resign him. He really started showing that he could live up to the hype the second half of the season.
