Atlanta, the Clemson of the GFL. How appropriate that they'd be in one of those trash London games.

Re: NFL 2014
Geno Smith just played maybe the worst quarter I've ever seen by a QB in the NFL, 4 drives, 3 INTs, benched 11 minutes into the game.
Re: NFL 2014
Jesus. The Bears give up three touchdowns in 57 seconds.

Why not? I was trashing him years ago.
BTW, speaking of overrated QBs, McSleepy is doing his first color analysis for the Rams/Chiefs game today. As much as I truly do not like that lazy jackass, I have to admit he's really doing a great job. Low-key, insightful, not trying too hard or coming across as awkward or nervous...
Impressive.

Re: NFL 2014
Dupre had been defending him like he does everybody on the football Cubs so I thought a discouraging word was forbidden. Elsewhere he's been getting slattered as a lazy POS who has all the tools but horrible mechanics. He definitely has a cannon for an arm which Alice in Hell is probably trying to send messages for the Raidazz to trade for.
Andy Dalton has typically whiffed on a touchdown pass which probably would've salted the game against the shitbirds away. They still might win but I have minimum confidence in him and Marvin to accomplish that. Just as I typed that the ginger POS almost had a pick 6.

Actually, I never found Cutler's mechanics all that bad, though they have seemed to regress slightly over the years (as he seems to be trying to ape Favre, but without the backward ass hilljack anti-talent to pull it off). I describe him as Jeff George 2.0, because he also has a million dollar arm and a ten cent head. Doesn't quite have the same rocket launcher arm, but it's pretty damned strong, and with arguably the best skill players on any team surrounding him, there is no excuse for them to be as bad as they are right now.
I think when Brandon Marshall has become the locker room leader, you've truly hit rock bottom. I actually have come to like Marshall quite a bit, especially when he gave Goodellspeak The Tinkering Jester two raised middle fingers and wore his green shoes in prime time for mental health awareness. But, a leader he is not...

I'm on board for all of that, especially the Jeff George moniker.

I'm not a huge fan but he makes enough big throws when he has to and he does it without a running game.Captain Hate wrote:How much of a fucking mutt would Matt Stafford be if he didn't have Megatron to throw to?

Re: NFL 2014
Not sure why there would be deference in my direction.
You have to consider what Bear fans have watched at QB to know the desperation. Having an actual functioning pass offense was a rarity.
You wanted to believe, and Cutler gives you flashes. But he locks on way too often and has a fatal aversion to getting rid of the ball to avoid bad results.
But, yeah, their season was basically over when they ost to Carolina.
The fact is their defense doesn't make stops.

Re: NFL 2014
It was partially joking but I generally defer to you and Nags (and everybody) as having more insight into the team you follow at a close distance. For example, I'll accept the judgement on Stafford as legit. In Cutler's case we've all seen flashes of a potentially very good QB but never more than that over a long stretch, and with all the locker room meltdowns this season with him being a primary focal point, it's time to scrutinize him very critically, which you did.Harold Baines wrote:Not sure why there would be deference in my direction.

Wow--what an exciting ending in Arizona.

I just watched the highlights of the Cards game; wow indeed.

Re: NFL 2014
It goes without saying, but Carson Palmer thriving in AZ really illustrates how dismal the Raiders' offense is.

had to go to a concert and miss the end of this, I definitely should have recorded it in retrospect.walto wrote:Wow--what an exciting ending in Arizona.

Re: NFL 2014
the four bad teams in the AFC (Jets, Oakland, Jacksonville, Tennessee) are so bad (a combined 4-27) that of the other 12 teams, 11 are over .500 and one is at .500.

Classic Cappz.
The thing I was most impressed with was the defense. LeBeau was just terrorizing Luck and his O-line.
Re: NFL 2014
Will Idzik be fired? He was right to want to find a QB in the draft to replace Mark Sanchez. The pick of Geno Smith with hindsight looks awful but so far has a single QB drafted in 2013 shown that he can have a half way decent career as a starter?
Geno was top 10 in mocks before the draft so picking him in the second round can't really be criticized. He was so upset that he fired his agent after the draft. In retrospect, he dropped for a good reason!

Re: NFL 2014
Wait a minute, though. Let's give Cappz credit for immediately calling the Jets out for drafting Smith. I gave him some shit about it at the time, but I sure as hell ain't getting the last laugh.
