kevin drumm
Re: kevin drumm
Kevin will be in NYC this Saturday, his first solo set here in probably 6-7 years at least, plus a first time duo with Jason Lescalleet (who will also be doing a solo), the two will also do an Erst release, out in 2014 sometime. plus our own Dave Barnes/Dave Quam/Massacooramaan will be DJing, and the sound system will be massive. should be incredible, tix and more details available below:

Re: kevin drumm
actually he played here at that neon marshmallow festival at public assembly in 2011, only a (comparatively recent) year-and-a-half ago. nonetheless this show looks awesome and i hope i can make it! his neon marshmallow set was awesome.jon abbey wrote:Kevin will be in NYC this Saturday, his first solo set here in probably 6-7 years at least...
Re: kevin drumm
huh, that somehow totally escaped me, thanks. I think I was still recovering from the prior month's crazy AMPLIFY, we were wiped out for a while after that ended.
Re: kevin drumm
the show jon mentions above was amazing.
just in case anyone doubted.

There was not a doubt. I'm jealous. Hope to read a show recap/review.mudd wrote:the show jon mentions above was amazing.

Re: kevin drumm
i'm afraid i was stuck with cell phone only access over the weekend and now the details are out of my grasp. lescalleet was a a wind storm, drumm was an earthquake, the duo was a flood so i guess quam played the role of fire.
the duo was quite different than either solo, too.
and quam brought us the best dj use of robert ashley i ever hope to hear.

Re: kevin drumm
yeah, that is a great description, I'll just add that the sound system was so good and in such a relatively small room that it was hard to think about the music critically, similarly to why one shouldn't edit records on an audiophile system.
incredible night, though, I'm still not totally recovered almost 48 hours later.

Not to drag the discussion astray... but Jon, would you explain?jon abbey wrote:yeah, that is a great description, I'll just add that the sound system was so good and in such a relatively small room that it was hard to think about the music critically, similarly to why one shouldn't edit records on an audiophile system.
Re: kevin drumm
sure, the tendency is to focus too much on the sound quality and not enough on the quality of the actual music. this isn't a criticism in any way, to be clear.

Re: kevin drumm
love Earrach - listening to the second disc now. i was expecting a lot of super harsh noise/high end stuff given the name and the artwork (is that a guy with a pin being shoved into his head?) - but it's more a collage of tape noises, distorted machine sounds, strange loops... still letting it sink in.

The first disc of Earrach remained on repeat, it's pretty great.

Actually the name is not 'Earache' but 'Earrach', which is, quite innocently, Irish/Gaelic for 'spring' (the season):

Re: kevin drumm
I haven't seen any discussion here about the new tracks that Kevin did with Jason Lescalleet. Currently in heavy rotation on my ipod, I'm especially in love with "Invisible". Anyone else?
They're at Lescalleet's bandcamp:

d'oh! thanks for that. I had assumed it was an intentional mis-spelling._duif wrote:laughter_CS wrote:i was expecting a lot of super harsh noise/high end stuff given the name

Though it's likely safe to assume the visual similarity of the words was considered by Kevin in the title choice.laughter_CS wrote:d'oh! thanks for that.
