Thought I'd pass along one of my all-time fav hip-hop tapes, Lady Bee's Strictly For That Nigga (you can find it in pieces around YouTube, this is the first track).

Good to see this getting some love. I was told that Lady Bee is Kingpin Skinny Pimp's pitch-shifted female alter-ego, ala Madlib/Quasimoto.

Crazy, I was just listening to Lady Bee Last night, all three of her tapes that I have "Strictly For That Nigga", and "Sumthin Fa Da Streets" part 1 and 2 rule. I never heard that this might be the work of a pitch correction, and if that's true that is pretty nuts.

hah, poked around a bit and found this. seems like it's Skinny Pimp, although there's still (heated) controversy that claims Lady Bee is two guys and a girl.

either way, I think that "Strictly For That Nigga" tape is unreal. glad to hear it's known and liked on the board! I haven't heard either parts of "Sumthin Fa Da Streets", so i'll be sure to check them out.

I'm not sure how much I like the new Juelz mixtape; it has nice production, but Juelz sounds old and doesn't have that youthful arrogance he used to. I know he is older, but whenever I think of Juelz I think of sneering underneath perfectly folded bandanas, and he just sounds different on this tape, a lot more different than Jim Jones or Cam'ron does from their younger selves. Maybe its just that I haven't heard as much of Juelz's growth over the years, 'cause his projects never seem to come out, compared with the other two, who have been pretty consistent, comparatively. Regardless, this track has a great Future feature and Juelz is alright, too.

I haven't really gotten through much new shit lately (haven't even jammed that future mixtape yet), but some old stuff I've been feeling lately (including some more Memphis business:

Maniac - The World of Psycho 1995

This tape is fucking outrageous. Memphis horror from the 90s, but instead of some angry annoying dude gnarling at you about eating babies, he has this weird 10 blunts deep lethargic flow while still saying some really nasty shit. I was almost expecting Devin the Dude to pop in. The skits (which are great) even suggest he just got high one day and decided to try to make an album like this. It's funny and weird and awesome when your stoned. He also randomly shouts out Chicago juke legend DJ Puncho too which definitely earned him some points with me

DJ Sound - Vols 1-3

Sound is a really important early Memphis DJ, probably my favorite after Spanish Fly. These first three tapes from 1992-93 are crazy, and I hate to make lazy comparisons to Screw, but the syrup must have been thicker in Memphis because these move even slower.

Peaches - Lite Green Records Presents Peaches

An old Texas album I had never heard before that I really enjoyed. I knew his track "Lost in the Hood" from "3 in da Mornin Part 2" (actually titled "No Way Out" on there), which I love. Screw himself even makes a guest appearance, screwing 4 of the tracks. This one seems kinda slept on.

goldy - In The Land of the Funk

A dope Bay Area album mr Jon Abbey turned me onto, which is strange because he only likes Houston stuff. Produced by fellow members of the Dangerous Crew and Ant Banks.

Pac Man - I'm Still Here

A 2008 mixtape from one of the originators (originator?) of this whole "Drill" thing in Chicago, who was unfortunately murdered before it got any national attention.

I've been biking around L.A. listening to it, and its definitely grown on me. I like how he has a few of those drill kids on there, trying to stay relevant. He has some real funny lines, too, like "Don't call it a come back, fuck it, call it a come back" or on that track with Future, when Future croons "No body knows what I go through", Juelz adlibs in the background, "Facts!"

And thanks for reminding me to listen to Juelz's first album again, classic Dipset. It's funny they kept that line he has about being a young Muhammad Atta but censor the actual words out. I mean, I know why they censored it, but that line seems like something that you should have kept to mixtape or that old BET "freestyle" that's up on Youtube, and not put on your debut album only to have it censored, haha.

In other Dipset related music, Vado's Slime Flu 3 is good, but haven't listened to it enough to know how good. I've always like him in conjunction with Cam more than on his own, and Cam doesn't even have a single feature!

The Underachievers dropped Indigoism this week, it's on dat piff. It's great. I already thought "Herb Shuttles" brought that '93 til infinity vibe and there's a satisfying rework of the OG on "The Mahdi". I almost want to dislike this tape because it is as if google was tracking me and assembled a mixtape after figuring out what I liked. Can't though, it is too good and getting better on repeat.

Anybody digging the new Young Thug mixtape? I definitely am, like a 17-year-old Future with even less respect for the correct way your supposed to use Autotune. I liked his last one, I Came From Nothing 2, but he's definitely uhh....developed with this one. It's pretty bugged
