Re: the IHM metal thread
lol... i waasn't super pumped about this years releases.... but i tried to keep it real.... also i didn'rt post super shady shit. i still have to say though white oak rules all.. as far as best bands go...
Re: the IHM metal thread
I just heard some more Havohej the other night that blew my damn mind. Previously I had only heard Dethrone the Son of God (which I loved, I believe Kevin Drumm name dropped them in an interview a while ago, which makes a lot of sense), but their early eps are even better. "Black Perversion" blew me away, and I'd love some more shit that sounds like this! Can you guys once again help a metal n00b out?
Re: the IHM metal thread
You're probably familiar with them, but... : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NuJVoheFosEdave quam wrote:I just heard some more Havohej the other night that blew my damn mind. Re: the IHM metal thread
Yeah, early Beherit rules -- it's little more under produced, but a definite precursor to Paul Ledney's stuff in Havohej and Profanatica (who I assume you know already...) Maybe The Royal Arche Blaspheme is worth checking out, as it shares a member with Havohej. Ride For Revenge and Will over Matter are sort of similar and worth checking out. Are you thinking mostly about the almost death ambient, sludgy stuff? Or just outsider black metal?F&B wrote:You're probably familiar with them, but... : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NuJVoheFosEdave quam wrote:I just heard some more Havohej the other night that blew my damn mind. Re: the IHM metal thread
I did grab some Beherit, but haven't actually checked much of it out yet...the stuff I heard was great though!
I guess I'm looking more for the "outsider black metal" kinda vibe, but death stuff is cool with me too. I've grabbed some Profanatica and Incantation stuff which I liked, but I definitely like the Havohej stuff more.

Re: the IHM metal thread
I'm still digging through some 2012 releases, but here's some of my favorite stuff from '12...
Revenge - Scum.Collapse.Eradication
Martire - Brutal Legions of...
Knelt Rote - Trespass
Hooded Menace - effigies of evil
Mgla - With hearts toward none
Deathspell Omega - drought
Antediluvian/Adversarial split
Radioactive Vomit - Witchblood
Raspberry Bulbs - demos lp
Occultation - Three & Seven
Column of Heaven - mission from god
Stuff from before '12, but that received a lot of play:
Vanhelgd - church of death
Living Decay demo
Wolfslair - Odin
Antediluvian's massive, impressive 2lp release on NWN! (probably my favorite death metal record in years with a package to match)
Ride for Revenge - Under the eye
Blood Red Fog - radiating desolation

Great picks... and still don't get why Chips n Beer hated on the Revenge record so hard.

Re: the IHM metal thread
I don't think many of the Chips n beer writers dig the self serious pose of J. Read or the chaotic warmetal genre in general, which is kinda funny because I think Revenge isn't all that far away from a lot of things they dig. I think a bit of it comes from the nerdy nwn! board crowd, which is never a good reason to dislike something imo. I can see hating it on its own asethetically sketchy merits, but obviously I love its weird nearly harsh noise extremity. In fact, I can't really judge as much as just sit there and accept it like a chump. A singular vision and all that. This is PRE wrote:Great picks... and still don't get why Chips n Beer hated on the Revenge record so hard.
Agreed. I'm pretty blown away by it... it's kind of in its own world of crazy. It fits together with the above mentioned and sects like Antediluvian and Ride For Revenge that seem isolated and heads bowed in their own little patch of weird.holy ghost wrote:I'm amazed more people aren't flipping their lids for this one. New Portal out now. 4 years since the last one. The world is going to end....
New Antediluvian LP soon too, 2013 will be insane.....

Re: the IHM metal thread
Yeah, both of these albums are probably my most anticipated albums of any genre for 2013. I'm waiting for the vinyl on the Portal. Hoping it comes out sooner rather than later...holy ghost wrote:New Portal out now. 4 years since the last one. The world is going to end....

Another anticipated release is the new Swallowed and Krypts.
In other news, I've realised that Funebre's early demos foreshadowed Incantation and all that resulting dm muck by about a year -- punishing, primitive, low-end plod. I feel as if I should be combing out the grubs from my hair when listening to stuff like Cranial Torment. Love it.

Re: the IHM metal thread
I got the advance tape of the Antediluvian - it's a fucking monster. I also got a little tipsy Friday impulse ordered the new Portal - I'll buy the vinyl as well, but I can't resist this band. It's just fucking crushing. Cleaner production, but it doesn't loose any of the heaviness or weirdness.... worth the 4 year wait.Tanner wrote:Yeah, both of these albums are probably my most anticipated albums of any genre for 2013. I totally dig those Funebre demos as well, that LP was great. Same with the Rippoluku demo that made it's way to LP - those Finns seem to have such a natural instinct for death metal. I'm very excited ot hear the new Convulse. Maybe not excited. Interested. The Swallowed is definitely up there as one of my most anticipated release of 2013. A lot of promise from Black Feast as well, speaking of Finland.... and I'd kill for W.A.I.L. to release another LP.....

Re: the IHM metal thread
agreed on the Antedeluvian & Portal of course.
4 other things I'm excited about:
- Season Of Mist officially said the new Gorguts will be out this year
- there'll be a new Ulcerate this year
- there'll be a new Mitochondrian this year
- Century Media reissued Far Away From The Sun by Sacramentum. It sounds awesome. Why oh why didn't I pick this up back in the days? Probably because I don't really liked the cover, never came across a printed review and there was no internet pre-listening available.

Re: the IHM metal thread
and a new CARCASS record, supposedly early 2013, damn. that will either be:
a) the disappointment of the century
or
b) a new Necrotism ans/or a new Heartwork
I see no middle ground.

Re: the IHM metal thread
I'm not sure I see the point of Carcass releasing a new one, but if Autopsy can do it (among many others) why not? I'm expecting nothing of value, so hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised.schiksalgemeinschaft wrote:and a new CARCASS record, supposedly early 2013, damn. that will either be:

Isn't there supposed to be a new Immolation record too? I'm one of the few who apparently liked Majesty and Decay.

Re: the IHM metal thread
could be bad indeed, probably will be. but there's no Amott involved (I dislike Arch Enemy) and apparently in interviews Walker says that it's sounds like an album that could be released between Necrotism & Heartwork, so that are 2 promising things.Tanner wrote:I'm not sure I see the point of Carcass releasing a new one, but if Autopsy can do it (among many others) why not? I like Majesty & Decay too btw, haven't heard a thing about a new album.
on a sidenote, the new Portal sounds good, but it doesn't really click yet. and oh, I've listened an awful lot to Sacramentum.

Re: the IHM metal thread
The new Portal really works for me, and tiding me over well until Antediluvian unleashes the fury.
Re: the IHM metal thread
Ok, I since I like Portal a looooot (even if I dig swarth better), some suggestions for something in the same vein please ? Thanks.
