Sorry if this has been addressed in here, but I'm curious to check out some South American metal and would love some recommendations. I'm not super knowledgeable about metal at all, I pretty much just know (and love) the obvious classics. My fav black metal band is probably Abruptum, and my favorite Death Metal band is Autopsy, if that helps at all (probably doesn't).

INRI is amazing, even with my limited knowledge of metal before, I can't believe I never checked this out. So fucking good. Grabbed some more albums by them, including the Warefare Noise comp them and other bands are on, plus some stuff by all the bands Tanner mentioned from South America. Super psyched to listen to em.

I guess with my demo tape question, pardon my ignorance as I'm not knowledgeable about metal at all, I was just curious about bands who maybe went on to doing more, who have dope demo tapes. After looking for a lot of these bands you guys have recommended, I realized all these fools have demos. Fuck, Im such a fucking square

Some parts of the latest Botanist album 'Doom is Bloom' are, in a way, even better than the first one. Same instrumentation, but a doom album this time. Works just as well.

Some newish stuff:

I've been listening to a lot of rhinocervs stuff, Odz Manouk and Axeman on the black metal front. Probably just reiterating what some of you already know, but it's excellent, varied stuff.

The new Samothrace is really great doom, even if I'm getting kind of sick of the genre. Still impecably played lp-side songs full of dynamics and bruising force. Good shit.

A couple tapes: Abominablood from Chile plays grotesque, primitive and sloppy Blasphemy worship. It's dismal and sort of great despite its inept tomfoolery. All growly goat-fucker name calling, and bass playing taxi drivers posing in graveyards. I wear my sunglasses at night or some shit. The other tape: Noxious Nex on Serpent Head Revival, is worth checking out for the Antediluvian-style weird dm (which figures cuz it features one of those guys). But it's even weirder than Antediluvian, and plows along its own murky furrow, burrowing into a truly bizare dream world of fucked up self-flagellation and were-animals. Gnostic themes? Possibly, who knows? It's like the guy sat down in his sigil-crawled basement with his electric bone harp and just started baying at the shadows, while his mom banged on the floor above, "quiet it down, honey."

Twisted Tower Dire has been blowing my skirt up lately. Their lp, Make it Dark, is incredibly catchy 80s style neon glow and songcraft. Not brootal or black or death at all -- just an profound exegesis of the book of NWOBHM and Valley Girl cheese. I seriously can't stop listening it...

On a similar note, Bitch has been reissued by Metal Blade -- epic, mighty female-fronted 80s glam metal. Really, I can't say enough about it. Even if I have slight issues with the ridonculous band name. But hey, it's a better name than Corpsegrinder or goatvulva. Although...

Oh, Witchrist has released a new album... And the Antediluvian double lp issue on NWN! is beyond even that label's usual ridiculous packaging extremity -- a lp-sized hardbound book, large patch, sticker and green with black swirled vinyl. If the music wasn't so great it would be slightly offensive.

Been listening a lot to Anu lately, an American BM band. Pretty straightforward old school, cold, bleak stuff, but there's a really good vibe to it. Think Burzum + Dark Throne's Panzerfaust + Judas Iscariot. Etc.

2010's Opus Funaerum may have a pretty bad title, but what the heck, it's out on Graveless Slumber and highly enjoyable. It's pretty much under the radar of the internet and most reviewsites it seems, but most of the album tracks are on YouTube.

Awesome. I'll have to check that out. I hate EPs, mainly because I'm really lazy and don't like to get up after seven minutes to flip the side. Although, I did get a pretty nice and unexpected Malaria EP in my last order from Serpents Head Reprisal, which is considered " canadian war-grind," and is consequently funny and stupid and great. Dudes look like your neighbor's D & D basement gang doing their best impression of fuck the world. Still, it's a above average primitive grind record...

Ugh. I'm having the same issue with Rhinocervs (I ordered and am still waiting on some stuff from 2 months ago), but I think they are (hopefully) still operating. I've only heard bad things about ordering through C.N. though. I hope it comes through for you.

The new Drawn And Quartered (Feeding Hell's Furnace) on Nuclear Winter Records is an excellent slab of American death metal. Think Ulcerate meets Disma, or something like that.

drawn and quartered always got a bad reputation for being an immolation rip-off. i always thought they were pretty good, but the production was so terrible most of their albums are unlistenable. will check out the new one though.
