Damu the Fudgemunk - Travel At Your Own Pace

Really freakin' good. Very similar to J Dilla but more straight up.

the sonic give and take by this unlikely (for me at least) pairing, is at times so good it makes you think it's all arranged by some higher order magnetic energy placing bits together as if by axiom.

a special release indeed. privileged to hear it.
thanks

Jason Kahn - Miramar

This one still plays tricks with my inner ear. Some of the nearly static tones are physically painful at loud volumes, which is how I always play it; I don't think it would work at low volumes, subsumed in traffic noise. It always seems to survive cd purges. Maybe my favorite Kahn album? I'm not sure. I still haven't heard Vanishing Point, which I know is a favorite around these parts. But I guess I dig a certain bland eradication sometimes. This one begs to never be heard again. I do like how it plays against the intermittent tattoo of the ceiling fan, and the cry of gulls outside my window. Killer.

Great description, one of a handful of records I concede to myself I might think about differently without the cover art. But one of my very favorites of his.

You know, I was just looking at my pile of Sirrs a couple of weeks ago and thinking it was time I gave them all a replay - but I decided to follow Jesse and load up the first ten Ersts, which I haven't played for a while. Of the first ten I have only the Ninh / Müller to go, but the one I've enjoyed the most by far, and it's been a good three years since I gave it a spin is the one I'm listening to right now

(but I don't have a copy that looks like this)
WONDERFUL stuff

My thoughts on the others, en passant, fwiw.. VHF not as spellbinding as I remember it (that's just me, I guess); Haunted House still magnificent; Howard / Maroney patchy - some great polyphonic playing from Maroney in "Pulse Field", but Earl leaves me a bit cold; Tom & Gerry nice & fizzy but seems rather tame knowing what Lehn went on to do; TWTUD pretty but I'd forgotten how busy Sugimoto is on that disc, Particles & Smears - which used to be a real favourite - sounds rather detached and spiky; Butcher & Durrant still rock(s); Dafeldecker & Roberts a yawn
But what do I know?
Ersts 11 - 20 loaded up and ready to go.. one day..
