Hmmm...I'd rather say two steps behind Deathspell Omega.

I think they have a better sense of form than Deathspell Omega, a bit more organic.
Re: the IHM metal thread
Listening to new album from Lunar Aurora. Great atmospheric black metal.

it would be a shame if it remained shut down, probably the best metal information resource out there.

Bosse-de-nage, a black metal band the Lurker site (excellent recommendation btw) reviewed a couple of days ago is really, really excellent. Best BM release of 2012 up until now for me.
Their record company was extremely fast in mailing the LP to me btw.

Lurker is my favorite metal website. Just excellent.

Re: the IHM metal thread
Apparently they reviewed it in august of last year. Read the review a couple of days ago. I must have been confused. Well, the Boss-De-Nage makes it into my best of list of 2011 then.
Looking forward to that Occultation on Profound Lore too, that song they posted sounds very intriguing.

Another great band in the 'BM through an 80s goth-alternative prism' field.schiksalgemeinschaft wrote:Looking forward to that Occultation on Profound Lore too, that song they posted sounds very intriguing.

Listening to a digital copy of this and it's a really impressive record. Black Metal (not even sure if this music is still BM) these days is so great, so evolving, so bastardized, it's the most vital rock sub genre IMO. Why am I so lovely ? Because my master washes me. Re: the IHM metal thread
According to the Profound Lore Records news page:
BOSSE-DE-NAGE – Complete Work On New Album, New MP3 Posted
Bay Area enigma BOSSE-DE-NAGE have completed work on their new album “iii”, the follow-up to last year’s “ii”. With live-appearances pretty much rare and the band’s refusal to partake in any kind of promotional activity whatsoever, all coupled with the band’s bizarre mix of avant-outsider black metal, Slint-inspired indie-rock, and classic-era “screamo”, have made BOSSE-DE-NAGE one of the more intriguing, unique, uncompromising, and ultimately psychotic and murderous-sounding bands out of the Bay Area.
To officially be released on June 26, tracklisting for “iii” goes as follows:
The Arborist
Desuetude
Perceive There A Silence
Cells
The God Ennui
An Ideal Ledge
You can hear the opening track ‘The Arborist’ here[...]
Re: the IHM metal thread
I have recently fallen back in love with black metal, loved Bosse-De-Nage after picking from this thread and saw Lurker's thread about The Great Old Ones.
I'm a big Lovecraft fan. I was really pleasantly surprised by these guys, I completely agree with the review. Have you guys listened to it yet?
As I've just recently over the last year realised BM is really in tune with my norwegianness, I don't really have the right words to explain, my sound brain says the kick drum could be better and there could have been stripped out some other stuff, otherwise I just love the way they pick riffs reminiscent of things that shouldn't be in metal for a few moments the same way Bosse-De-Nage does. But it's a lot fuller without being... words again.\
Edit: Drunk post, please forgive ramblings

I listened to the 3 tracks on the band's site and liked them a lot. In terms of musical feelings reminds me a bit of Altar Of Plagues.Moon wrote:I have recently fallen back in love with black metal, loved Bosse-De-Nage after picking from this thread and saw Lurker's thread about The Great Old Ones.

‘Under The Sign Of The Black Mark’ Turns 25

Makes me just realize that 25 years have passed, that Quorthon died at 38, that I'm a 40 years old sad man, and how amazing this sounded. I still remember when I put the vinyl on the player, volume to max, and the sudden aural shock that was Massacre after the intro.

Re: the IHM metal thread
I'm really glad this thread is still hanging around on IHM. I haven't heard too many new albums lately, mostly listening to older death and black metal; however, the amazing Morbus Chron album, "Sleepers in the Rift," should be of interest to anyone who digs Autopsy, psychedelic Lovecraftian imagery and/or Swedish teenage mustaches. It's out on Pulverised records... Well worth checking out; it's really refreshing to hear a Swedish band not trying to sound like Entombed or Dismember and frankly killing it American style, while adding their own peculiar twinge. Guitar lines are as weird as they come without being techincal at all...
Speaking of Autopsy, there's another great teenage mustache DM band called Living Decay that I just picked up a tape from on Dark Descent records. It's far from progressive, instead reveling in the fetid grotesquries of old American death metal like Repulsion, early Morbid Angel, and Autopsy... It's got a youthful, boisterous energy that can only come as a natural reaction to boredom, malt liquor and old Scream Queen and Fangoria magazines. It's like the sound of your older brother's car in highschool, reeking of sweat, stale cigarettes and sexual frustration-- a winner.
Another good one I've heard that's probably a little newer is the Dolorvotre record on Ajna and probably more of interest of many of you guys who post on this threa (those who lurk, POST!)... It's pretty whacked out black metal, trudging that often painful Black Twilight Circle from LA stuff (both these dudes are in pretty much all those bands) and the NY Bone Awl primitivismo. I'm not blown away entirely, but I just wrecked my turntable so it'll be a while before I can dig back in... but the DMT inspired lyrics and total ownership of trad. raw black metal was apparent and intriguing from the get go. It obviously comes from a real place, and as it's an LA band, none of it has anything to do with snow or anarcho-primitivism. Booyeah!
I picked up Heresiarch's one sided 12 inch "Hammer of Intransigence" recently, as well. The format seems a bit silly and overly KVLT, but ulimately it's hard for me to criticize a fully painted gatefold that features a mountain of skulls amidst an apolocalpytic dreamscape... Cliche? Yeah, but it's rarely done so well. The music is even better than their pretty great demo. Intense black/dm jams, not afraid to fully embrace some Araya-like screams, either .... I'm kind of in awe of their single-minded plumbing of such a narrow spectrum, coupled with this seemingly real deal misanthropy/chaos worship. I bet they work in offices and have girlfriends that love them. None the less, they've taken the Blasphemy and Archgoat route, but added a dose of their own neurosis, culminating in something that I probably enjoy more than either of those bands (well, archgoat is unfuckwithable). It's one of those truly alienating and wonderful experiences, like accidentally tuning into someone's fantasy/nightmare. It's certainly not for everyone, and my own estimation of it is filtered through my nurtured white boy gallows humor and an awesome respect for the fact that these guys just exist, writing albums called "Hammer of Intransigence" and livin' the dream.
Also, there's a new Dawnbringer album that came out a couple of days ago that makes almost everything I just wrote seem somewhat ill-advised. If you like metal at all, just go buy it on Profound Lore. As well as the new(ish) WOLD.

Re: the IHM metal thread
Great post, I don't have as much to contribute but as a frequent lurker to this thread I have to say something... I can wholeheartedly second the Heresiarch and Wold recommendations, these are fantastic records. I loved the preceding Dawnbringer record and for sure will check out the new one. I've discovered tons of great stuff through this thread and this recent post gives more paths to follow, big thanks to you and everyone!
Oh, I thought the new Pseudogod album, Deathwomb Catechesis, was very solid.

Nice. Thanks for unlurking... I need to check out Deathwomb Catechesis, cuz I really dig their other stuff. It's not often you hear quality death/black metal from Russia. Or maybe I'm just totally ignorant of that scene. Awesome artwork from Antichrist Kramer on Deathwomb, too. Hate to say it.This is PRE wrote:Great post, I don't have as much to contribute but as a frequent lurker to this thread I have to say something... Yeah, I kinda want to hate this band, but I can't. Negative Plane's guitarist makes his presence known for sure on this-- reverbed, ornate, prismatic. I'm not a huge fan of the vocals, but they work in context with the general murkiness. A weird and wonderful one...Gaendaal wrote:Another great band in the 'BM through an 80s goth-alternative prism' field.schiksalgemeinschaft wrote:Looking forward to that Occultation on Profound Lore too, that song they posted sounds very intriguing.
