I re-watched the end of the game, starting with the Giants' last drive. The play of the game would have been an incompletion if Eli hadn't looked long enough down the center of the field to get safety Patrick Chung to shift a little back towards the center. When Eli then passed to Manningham down the left sideline Chung was late in getting over there. If not for that little deception by Eli, Chung would have hit Manningham hard and caused an incompletion.

Kudos to Collingsworth for pointing that out, for also showing how the Patriots LB had his head turned the wrong way, allowing Eli to thread the needle to Nicks on that drive. Collingsworth also questioned Nicks for not fighting to stay in bounds on the catch that made it first and goal and immediately after that correctly opined that the Giants should try to avoid the endzone. When Michaels pointed out that the eight seconds that elapsed on the play that the Giants had 12 men on the field worked to the Giants advantage, Collingsworth countered that the five yard penalty would be just enough for Brady to get a good hail mary into the endzone. Right again.

Hats off to Rodney Harrison who made a prescient and gutsy call when he said in the pre-game that he'd rather have Eli than Brady leading an end of game come from behind drive to win a game.

Brady is one of the all-time great QB's but in Super Bowl XLVI, Eli outplayed him by a lot.

the funny thing is that the Giants probably weren't even playing the best in the NFC East at the end of the season, the Eagles were.

maybe the postseason matchups worked better for NY than they would have for Philly, but you know that Philly and probably Dallas fans are so pissed about this whole thing, the division was right there for both of them all year.

Good points. The Eagles had the most talent and were actually the best team in the division. 16 games is a small sample. Teams of 10-6 ability, even 11-5 ability can easily go 8-8. How many times during a season do the Yankees have 8-8 stretches? Probably several.

Hynoski had a big impact too, an undrafted rookie who made some huge plays yesterday. also Ramses Barden looked like he could be a major weapon in the very little time he got a chance this year, I was surprised he didn't get more of an opportunity but those top three guys are so good.

so yeah, the more I think about it, the better NY seems to be set up going forward. how good is Jerry Reese?

I agree about Hynoski. Reese has been very successful in the draft and with one particular undrafted free agent but he's not done as well with free agent signings. He owes some of his success to Dan Snyder. The Giants were the underbidders for Albert Haynesworth!

I was thinking about your question before you posed it here. I can't think of anybody off the top of my head in the NFL who is heads and shoulders better than his brethren, equivalent to Hubie Brown doing NBA games.

Believe it or not, even though he can get goofy at times I enjoy listening to Billick. Plus I've said before I like Dierdorf.

I used to be a huge Simms fan, but he's gone downhill in recent years. As has Aikmann.

Dierdorf, OTOH, has actually gotten better, IMO. He was a bit blustery on MNF, but he's really been solid the last couple of years.

Madden was great before the Alzheimer's.

Collingsworth has been consistently great since being teamed up with Michaels. Which says a lot coming from me since I truly hated him before then.

I miss those old pre-game shows. Those were the ones I grew up watching. They were usually a smart and professional presentation unlike the unwatchable shit they have these days.

Billick reminds me of Madden early in his broadcast career. He probably taught me 80% of the game of football.

Billick is machine-like with his knowledge of the game. But, he also presents it in a way that is easily digestible unlike many color guys who try to beat you over the head with their wealth of knowledge.

I will have to admit that I have an unreasonable respect for long-time Patriots fans. I watched them suffer mightily during my Dolphins years.

I'd put Staubach and Aikmann well above Danny in the spiral department. It's likely a bias that stems from having seen his entire career (minus two games) vs. having only seen selected games from the other two.

Another I'd put above him...Vick.

You saw more of Bradshaw than I did, but I'd put him up there as well.
