I agree absolutely voting him in the first division of guitar players. But I did not consider CAN albums as guitar records. Anyway - it is an excellent choice and I am very keen on getting the new release of Tago Mago on vinyl. It contains a thirty minute version of Spoon...

Hmm. Probably. I did not hear it until now. - But a lot of (actually most of the 60s an 70s stuff) their stuff were played spontaneous and "live". Even in their own "little" studio.
Yeah - and as a aborigin of the northern Rhine Lands i had the chance to see them live back in the late seventies more than once.
I can only say: Most of these shows were impressive.

their records are played live, but Czukay was an editing master, there have been volumes written about this.

I don't doubt that some of the issues with the live recordings are the poor recording quality (another reason that Peel session track is so good, sound quality is awesome), but also their tightness/crispness on the LPs seems to invariably turn to endless meh jamming on the live recordings. I'd be more jealous of you having seen them live if I didn't think they were cooked by the late seventies, even Soon Over Babaluma (1975) is borderline for me.

Absolutely true. My favourites are definetely the records made before "Future Days". But live it was different - more like a trance or voodoo ritual. The last show I have seen was one with Reebob Kwakuh Baah and Rosko Gee of Traffic when they released "Saw Delight". I guess '77 or '78. And that was nothing more than a (admitted: good) common rock show.
And the BBC-Sessions recordings were made from 1973 -1975. But this band is worth an own thread.

it's been awhile since I've listened to both but I always preferred the similarly titled (although i guess they are both improvisations) performance from the BBC In Concert program recorded the same week as the Peel one (although I guess it's not even a peel session since it's from the Anne Nightingale show).
