some of the filtered (LFO-affected?) sounds, the sort of 'step-shaped' waves, cutoff/resonance effects, and how the sounds sustain/decay -- it reminds me of the ES1 synthesizer in LOGIC. Although I'm sure kfw is using actual analog gear to get these sounds.. I really don't know much about it either way.

as for the "autechre substitute" comment, it sounds more spacious, texturally-satisfying, and just generally more engaging/affecting than much of autechre's output in the last five years. maybe it's a stretch of a comparison.

michael pisaro - asleep, street, pipes, tones

haven't made much sense of its structure yet.. i get distracted from it. feels like its progression could work better in a slower, or more focused state of mind.

sounds great on (cheap) headphones as a sort of compliment to city sounds (riding bus, train etc.)

sound palette is rich. pitch bends feel sort of gimmicky

some of the middle-upper register sine tones, and that odd, affected (pretty) piano-type sound seemed to have a subtle, digital delay-like, slow kind of pitching/phasing thing going on.. during the latter 30 minutes or so. i could have been hallucinating..

listening back on speakers now, i don't hear it so much. also, when there are several simultaneous sustained sounds, any beating (harmonic) rhythms seem regular and unchanging. of course it's difficult to tell..

I have listened to this at least as much as I have listened to anything else the past weeks, maybe the most played release of the past two months.
I am beginning to think, with the accrued experience of listening to several years of Pisaro's work, that a composer [and simpatico, superbly attuned musicians who, of course, realize the work] has come along I might have invented.

Orton Socket - 99 Explosions (Moikai)

I'm not the biggest Rob Mazurek fan (his Mego record left me feeling pretty deflated) but this release is utterly pleasant and downright lovely in places! I've been digging back into the Moikai catalogue a bit recently and really enjoying the vast majority of it... a bit of a shame it's not still an active venture as Monsieur O'Rourke obviously has a decent ear for a good release!
