I've done a few in studio ones, those have gone pretty well. I've only done I think one live on the phone before, and that was in the middle of the night on KCR when I knew few people would be listening.

copies of this surprisingly just arrived one day early. they printed great, I'm doublechecking the music now, but I plan to send all preorders (and orders received today) out tomorrow, and then officially release it early next week.

It would be cool if the short sound samples were silences.
Engaging silences.

yeah, middle of the night here too, but very good interview. especially in keeping it both thought provoking and at the same time concise and at a high level.

pity you didn't air "eeeh" which is probably my favorite erst track :)
well done.

ha! I seriously told Derek he should lead with this, somehow it got lost along the way in favor of more recent stuff, I guess.

is that the first track on eh? if so, that's one of my favorite pieces of music ever. didn't know others shared that opinion.

great news about 'phi' Jon.
I wasn't at home during the radio show so I hope it gets archived somewhere so I can still listen to it later.

Hi All
cdeupree asked about that three page spread, on Yuko’s flickr Vienna pages
by my own confession its an odd document, nor score or instruction .. it’s a .. hmm not sure.
As always both within and outside AMM there was / is a compulsion to attempt a get a grip on what one was up to, at various times differing gauze / screen / filters were /are pulled down through which the world was / is viewed.
an early gauze through which AMM collectively viewed its music would have been Gurdjieff & Ouspensky, at other times as an individual I will have used
various filters (or gauzes) for the most part these will have been painters, leading to view my work through a Rauschenberg gauze for example. musical gauzes have been viewing through a baroque filter, this three page spread referred to by cdeupree is a gauze were decisions in improvisation are seen via Leonard B. Meyer, during the early eighties I studied with the second Viennese school composer Graubart, Leonard B. Meyer’s books (music, the arts, and ideas/ emotion and meaning in music) were on the reading list, at some point I felt the need to view the route a single note /sound /event might proceed looked at through a L B M gauze, the affect of this period and this three page spread, was a higher degree of “shuffledness” in my playing, my often stated “as ones hand descends towards the instrument, one needs (for me, and possibly me only) to have considered around two hundred and fifty aspects of the implications for this event” this three page spread is an example of a single gauze.
The reason I had it with me during the Vienna recording sessions was to reinforce (by re-examining it) the sensation of when we consider a score
its rather like we pull a screen / gauze / filter down and view whatever we are about through that highly particular set of predilections, entering into world of which I’m not regularly a part of (Wandelweiser) I needed to view what is before me in a highly specific manner, as with all particular visions its often about the navigation of restriction.
In many respects the art work which is a part of the release describes in a visual way the process of the music contained, the white disturbed paper stands for time (relates to the use of paper as time (tearing pages from a calendar) as found on Erst 005, with the contained visual illusion on the cover, of time comes forward or recedes backwards, when you turn the art up-side down) the white paper is disturbed because the world is, we exist in an imperfect world, on to which we have over the centuries attempted to place our mark, the fragile and so not perfect black line (rapidograph 0.25 bought in Vienna, near the recording venue) emulates our attempt at placing with exquisite care a single event, here a single line, in the music a single sound, the placement of the attempts to place the line using the golden radio, (1.61803399) = phi
Attempting perfection on an imperfect surface.
Best wishes Keith

Jon, why are your recent clips shorter than previous ones, which were ~3+ minutes long? 1:30-2:00 seems way too short to me to give an attractive impression of the pieces (e.g. I listened to the Pisaro/Sugimoto clips, and just didn't think they would help "sell it"), and I can't see how 3 mins (or more) is somehow less desirable than a shorter clip.

it's not really a science, I try to make them more of a total length than an individual one, so if there are more, they are shorter. I don't think either 2 or 3 minutes gives you a great sense of long pieces, but some people like sound clips, so there you go.

Yes, many thanks indeed. I'm currently in the middle of Meyer and Cooper's Rhythmic Structure, and will move the other Meyer books on the future reading list as well.

on disc 2 now, the sun is shining, my neighbor is mowing his lawn, and the windows are open. wade matthews (who is currently staying at the kirby villa for a few days) is sitting on the other side of the room working on a max/msp patch, and i'm just chilling, soaking up the lovely sounds. i've already derived so much enjoyment from this record, and am looking forward to many more listens. this definitely falls in the category of 'good listening music'

Off-topic but - David, you and Wade should record something while he's there.
