Been listening to this one, as well as the other releases from Mauritius, Reunion, and Seychelles lately. The main style of music from these islands is called Sega, but it varies from island to island.

Hmm none of the newer Ocora CDs that I have heard really have electronic stuff on them. I wish they did though.

Not a lot of non-francophones seem to know this, but the Ocora back catalogue was cherry-picked for CD reissue on founder Charles Duvelle's Prophet label from 1999-2004. The hit rate is correspondingly higher, and most of this new(er) label's discs are fucking incredible. Particular highlights are those from Madagascar and P.N.G.

Just ordered this. Not sure what to expect. description reads like monk chants mixed with music (gongs, bells, wood blocks, stones) composed by Stomu Yamasta (anyone remembers him?)

Zen Hoyo feels more like a composed contemporary work, than an Ocora field capture. For instance, the recordings with recitations are accompanied by sounds (gongs, stones, etc), which I don't think is usually the case in reality.
There is a very uniform vibe across this disc, mysterious, flowing. Love the alternating transitions between the Instrumental tracks, to Recitations, to Prairies and back.
