heh, Jesse Goin put that in his writeup, but I've been pretty shocked to see how few people have mentioned it (Brian Olewnick and Joe Panzner get credit for both noticing it immediately and asking me about it).

one aspect that I like about this construction is that if (once?) the listener notices, it kind of forces them into a decision if they're going to play it on repeat after that, as to whether to play the track twice in a row or skip track 1 on every play past the first.

i noticed it right away because you sent me the download version when i preordered the album. i listened to the album in iTunes, set to repeat, and noticed i was hearing the same track twice in a row. i assumed it was some weirdness in the files you sent, and wrote it off... until the CD arrived.

not sure where this goes, but i just saw the wire year-end roundup, and they did one with krebs. part of her response:
In the last year, I had the opportunity to work in many exciting projects, combining performance, room, composition, improvisation, acoustic and electroacoustic music, speakers and live performers; this was very inspiring and beautiful. One example is my duo with Taku Unami, where we are combining the sound of real and virtual taped spaces, and where 'improvisation' is defined like this, that not everyone has to play exclusively his instrument every time, but also other operations are allowed. I like very much how Taku Unami was working with space and objects inside.

this is on its way to me as we speak - am curious. I am new(ish) to this whole end of the musical spectrum, and already find myself impatient with other music, or even unable to listen to it. Might be a lasting condition I don't know (wanting to listen to less and less, with more attention, and to stuff that 'challenges') - anyway, I don't have a musical background with which to approach this kind of music, I simply either like it or I don't (and funnily enough sometimes I can really like something that annoys me to bits [let alone other people - I know no-one else around me even remotely into this].
Anyway - eagerly awaiting (having read this thread)

nice. Gordon rules. An unsurprisingly unconventional approach to writing about the music.... this is gonna take me a little while to parse through but it looks worth it!

edit: I'm also quite entertained by the fact that it seems impossible to identify which blog entries are by which of the five listed contributors (much like the identity of whomever is behind this local bit of promotion).

Hmm, yes. Let someone else do all the work. Must try that sometime. Meanwhile, if someone could explain the passage below to me, I'd be most grateful.
“The effectuation of the vision-in-One does not cancel its state as negative condition or render it ‘sufficient’, it is thus neither the actualization of a virtual nor the realization of a possible.”

Carry out it the vision with l' one so that n' do not cancel it its term so that it takes the negative situation or so that it refunds `sufficient' ? ; , not, consequently it is the realization it is true and comprehension it is possible.

That's marginally more comprehensible but nowhere near as much fun as the album.

Laruelle is rough-going generally, but the entire piece isn't super long and is available any number of places online.

http://www.onphi.net/texte-a-summary-of ... phy-8.html is one place.

seems like bollocks.

"Laruelle claims that all forms of philosophy (from ancient philosophy to analytic philosophy to deconstruction and so on) are structured around a prior decision, but that all forms of philosophy remain constitutively blind to this decision. The 'decision' that Laurelle is concerned with here is the dialectical splitting of the world in order to grasp the world philosophically. Laruelle claims that the decisional structure of philosophy can only be grasped non-philosophically. In this sense, non-philosophy is a science of philosophy."

to solve the supposed problem, he simply makes another split.

Experimental music should be something that suggests a way of organizing your thinking, your attitude toward the world, which suggests that the world could be different.
