AMPLIFY 2011: stones

Post by jon abbey »

I'm extremely excited to announce this, the most ambitious fest I've put on in the US thus far. every fest I do is different, depending on the location and the venue/s, but this one is unusual in that every set will be a separate admission, because that's the way this venue (The Stone) works.

anyway, more info as things develop, but for now I wanted to announce it so that people could start to make plans to come from out of town if they wanted. I believe everything is final and locked in, with the one exception that Joe Foster's two sets on the 7th and 8th may flip with each other if Toshi can make it to town in time for the 7th (edit: these are now flipped). the last two nights consist of a six set subfestival curated by Michael Pisaro to celebrate the first year of his Gravity Wave label.

Oh dear - I would really like to go to quite a few of these. Better start checking out flights and hotels... Hope it is not totally prohibitively expensive...

We were planning to visit NYC at the end of August, but now it seems we have to rearrange almost everything! ;)

looks fantastic, Jon, but I don't think there's any chance I'll get there. Couldn't you have organised it for Barnsley?

I think I could swing the airfare and frugal eating, but the hotel thing kills the deal for me..

I was thinking of dossing with a good friend who lives in Brooklyn, but he's moving to Massachusetts before Sept..

damn..

This looks fantastic. Thanks very much, Jon, for curating this. I'm sure it's early to start asking, but this screams for another Amplify Box. So, are there any plans? I'm happy to to put in a pre-order even now!

I have checked a few things out and there are a couple of good deals for me, BUT I have decided to restrain myself and not go - even though it is taking all my strength of willpower, and is breaking my heart (because WOW Jon, amazing that this has been/is being put together). I really need to do the mature thing and try and save some money (not going would save me a lot in one go), because the company I work for is doing quite terrible financially, and this might have consequences for my job. [damn] sobs. sobs some more. This decision was a surprise for me - am I really growing up?

I don't think a box, I've done that already. presumably it will be recorded, but it's still 6+ months away, I just finally locked in the schedule a few minutes before starting this thread, so one thing at a time. :)

well, now that you've saved all that money, you can buy yourself a copy of the AMPLIFY 2002 box while the ErstSale is still going on. :D

there's one in the East Village, near when DMG used to be, grisha or someone should have the specifics.

I added the details of the two Malfatti/Pisaro sets on the 13th, Claude Lorrain 2 at 8 PM and Ascending Series (6) at 10 PM. whoo!

The White House hostel is just a few blocks from The Stone, I stayed there in 2006 and survived, I think it was around $40 for a single room. Pretty stoked about the lineup, hope I can find a way to make it.
