2010 Overrated, Underrated and Disappointing

at the end of the day the Winds Measure might be my favorite as well (though it, the Cathnor and the Erst are all pretty neck and neck).

and so far i've only heard the AT on mp3 but it's already catching up with the other three (the temperate autumn to July Mountain's hyperthermia).

i'm surprised at the all the criticism of motubachii's volume level. after a decade plus (maybe even two at this point) of cd philosophies such as "listen at different volumes/on shuffle to reveal different things", "listen at the volume you normally would but don't adjust" or even "lol made you flinch!" and "fuck you blast it and don't dare touch that knob" it's strikes me as odd that people are still expecting the cd to tell them how to listen.

yes, there will definitely be a re-issue sometime this year, probably a joint effort between WInds Measure and Roeba. i've also heard rumor of an additional cassette of new material coming along with the cd's.

I tried "2 seconds / b minor / wave" and "fields have ears", I think both of these are from this year. The music in the first album really did not carry my attention, I preferred the music in the second one but i'd heard it all before too many times. I'd rather listen to some RIsset.

yeah, see, i think those two are outstanding examples of Pisaro's work as well as great albums in general. i have to confess to not knowing Risset so i can';t compare.

I was pretty disappointed with the David Tudor Bandoneon ! (A Combine) DVD. The footage of the performance was extremely short, and although the explanation of how the piece was conceived and realized was interesting, I was really looking forward to actually hearing and seeing it played...

actually the whole concept for side 2 'voyelles' was based on the fact that it was a cassette release, using tape hiss as a sound source. so the medium and the piece sort of go hand in hand. but i do get the limited appeal of the cassette, believe me.

could you elaborate? i was really intrigued by that one, definitely was planning to get it. when i step back, i'm not sure i feel about the entire corpus and practice of the "murayama with field/concrete people" series, but i like tsunoda, like the clips i heard, and was made curious by reading about it.

Contrived almost, devil (listener) may care emphasis on concept ergo hands are tied throughout, episodic and not a hair rhapsodic, very uninteresting. Murayama has blown me away on a couple recent collabs and Tsunoda I love with the heat of a thousand suns, won't be returning to this any time soon.

Just listened to the new recording of July Mountain this afternoon and found it very enjoyable. Actually it was the first Pisaro piece I've heard and I was expecting a more difficult listen to be honest, based on the way his work is described here. Rather than the Coleclough, it reminds me of Eno's "On Land" more than anything... which is one of my favorite records, so it was a pleasant surprise. Does anyone know what guidelines he set out for the field recordings in that piece? He mentioned in the liner notes that the piece is intended to have exactly 20 field recordings incorporated, so obviously there are some restrictions... just curious. His email is there too but I don't want to bug him with silly questions...

Yes, concepts are restricting, but there are lots of interesting conceptual albums, so that's not the main explanation for what bugs you. It's episodic indeed, but that's just what I liked here: small miniatures of field recording, framed by those low hums.
