a fantastic show by this trio watched by around 75 people.
Split in 2 halves, the first was similar with the music on Cranc, mostly extended tones focusing on texture from all three. second half Veliotis switched to piano (or rather some sort of electronic sensors inside it) and the music displayed a lot more upfront character both from Kostis but primarily from Capece's multitude of add-ons to his already impressive bass clarinet. Loved Capece's visceral performance where he seemed to becoming one with his instrument.
for that second set Nikos used 4 ebows in the piano and also used the sounds he created in raising some feedback from the cello that was sitting all alone in its chair. Was a curious turn of events in the sense that it left less space for me to maneuver, but i guess i pulled it off pretty decently. Lucio's playing was pure fucking class throughout as well

Exposition.
INSTAL is an experimental festival of experimental music: and a leading one in Europe. It is a festival of ideas, and of radical experiments in music, performance, literature and art, in Improvisation, Noise, Conceptual Music, Abject Music, Field Recording, Radiophonic art, Absolute Computer Music, Activism, Collective Learning…..

Justification.
Music is about more than just music.

In fact, music is never just about music: it is always the product of its wider situation.

Some musics reinforce the status quo. Other musics try to affect the collective conditions of existence. We’re interested in the latter: musics that at least try to develop useful ways of acting and thinking outside today’s dominant ideologies.

Through performance and discussion, INSTAL 10 will attempt to address itself to these and consecutive matters. It will be more productive if you join us.

Tickets.
Day Pass £10, Festival Pass £25, Early Bird £20
Box Office 0845 330 3501 or buy online via our website.

I just saw Fred Frith play an amazing set. Was beyond what I expected, all from knowing his music from his documentary. The various techniques that he used on his guitar was so cool, including pouring sand and using strings and wires to play the instrument. Good use of delay pedal. Really awesome experience, great crowd.

People in LA this Saturday evening might want to check out the recreation of Xenakis' sound and light extravaganza, Persepolis, in the Los Angeles State Park. From the announcement: "Persepolis LA will involve high volume levels and earplugs are recommended." Persepolis was originally composed for the 2500-year anniversary of the Persian empire in 1971, an celebration that ironically was the swan song of the Shah of Iran. This is its first re-creation and is based on historical documents from the Xenakis archives.

yeah. On a certain level, I knew Drumm/Malfatti was INNEVITABLE. But I can't believe it's actually happening.

Now if only I was the kind of person who could drop over $1000 right now on roundtrip airfare to Geneva.

The grammatical rules associated with diagrammatic reduction become apparent by considering a more tractable diagrammatic representation, applied to the Windsor knot in Fig. 8. - Fink & Mao, Tie knots, random walks and topology, (Physica A 276)

Experimental music should be something that suggests a way of organizing your thinking, your attitude toward the world, which suggests that the world could be different.

A Valerio Tricoli/Thomas Ankersmit duo, Dec or Jan release.

Edit: I'm going to leave this post, but intended it for the upcoming releases thread, sorry.

that's on PAN, right, the $30 LP label?

it looks like the record release show for 'Air Supply' will be at Issue Project Room on January 15, the first show by Lambkin/Lescalleet since 2008 (I think maybe Philly was the last one? not positive).
