Yeah it was at Mod Lang. Still open in their weirdo location. It's not usually a very exciting store so I was kind of shocked at what I found. A friend of mine and I were running errands out there and decided to stop in on a whim. Glad I did.

Edit: Whooops. Never mind, not Down Home. Anyways . . . . . .

Since it hasnt been mentioned, Down Home is the record store connected to Chris Strachwitz' Arhoolie Label. An AMAZING store with tons of little hand written labels on each CD. The box set they put out years ago is worth picking up, he's sort of a modern day Harry Smith:



First place I ever lived in California was El Cerrito, one block from Wildcat Canyon.

the label on the "giants of the organ" LP itself says "two giant organs come together" -- i wonder if that was intentional or not.

it sounds good on my crappy old motorola suitcase turntable with built-in speakers, horrible tracking on the needle so it's skipping and looping like crazy. turned into minimalist math blues like some autistic beefheart/magic band.
