Experimental music should be something that suggests a way of organizing your thinking, your attitude toward the world, which suggests that the world could be different.

The National - High Violet

I didn't get all the hype around this release.ReverendLove wrote:The National - High Violet
It's a pity because i quite enjoyed 'Boxer' when it appeared.

I am not far from you. I heard it just the second time.
It is not bad, but compared to Boxer or their first one it is somewhat pointless. And the production sounds pretty plane or common.
I even do not understand the excitement of most critics.

Another band with relation to the National. Bryce Dessner is a founding member.

Yeah, it's fantastic, especially "The Hard Blues." I like Dogon A.D. a lot, too.Dohol wrote:I've always loved that one..sevenarts wrote:Julius Hemphill | Coon Bid'ness

Just started Anthony Braxton's Charlie Parker Project. I dunno, I've been getting heavily into Braxton lately but every time I check out one of his "standards" projects I'm not sure what to think. I guess I just wonder, why do this when you can do Dortmund or Willisau or that Victoriaville Diamond Curtain Wall disc instead? It might also be that I'm not nearly familiar enough with Parker to appreciate what Braxton's doing to the originals here.
