There's a tiny little record store a few blocks from my place here in Oakland and I swear to god it's like a million people around my age are selling off their vinyl collections. I walk in and the used new arrivals are filled with records I either own or drooled over in high school/college.

So today I grabbed
Karate - The Bed is in the Ocean LP
Sweep the Leg Johnny - Tomorrow We Will Run Faster LP

and unrelated to nostalgia
AFCGT (A-Frames and Climax Golden Twins) - AFCGT LP + 7"
which is amazing. Super scummy and bassy and totally unlike what I thought a collaboration between these groups would sound like.

Mathias Spahlinger - Extension 1979-1980 (Hat Art 6131)

Theatrical, almost surreal interplay (improvisation?) between Hildegard Kleeb - piano and Dimitris Polisoidos - violin.
Haven't stop playing this the last few days.
Managed to grab a copy of this from Jazzloft.com at $15.
Totally recommended.

Other purchases this month:
- Manuel Mota & Afonso Simões - Ao vivo no espaço, Centro de desastres (Dromos)
- Salvatore Sciarrino - Lo Spazio Inverso (Kairos)
- Giacinto Scelsi - Music for Wind Instruments and Percussion (Attacca)
- John Cage, Elliott Carter, Terry Riley - Changes Chances (Stradivarius)
- Jim Hall - These Rooms Featuring Tom Harrell (Denon)

Interested by this. I picked up an lp called 'with Love' from the miscellaneous section of my local record shop 20 odd years back. He can come across like an arabic Dick Dale/Link Wray in places.
Heard he was a bit of a wildman too.
Unfortunately the only things I could find for sale online last time I looked were tribute lps by him to Arabic artists, think I have one to Farid El-Atrache and there was another to Oum Kalsoum. Think those are late 80s & the truly magical stuff is mid 70s.
So am intrigued to find out what contents of this compi are.

having said that about Omar Khorshid, there are cds available from here
http://www.adabwafan.com/search/product ... &tp=2&fl=0

and it looks, from further reading as though everything he recorded was done in that 4 year stretch '74 to '77.

there's a fansite here with working MP3 d/lds

Disturbing, more so if you have little to no idea what's going on (local radio's been playing this very frequently of late, finally had to ask).

- ALTENBURGER / ELVEZI / PALLANDRE - GRESINE
- CHARLES / DONEDA / PALLANDRE - GAYCRE
- SASSI / DONEDA / PICHELIN / LE QUAN - MONTAGNE NOIRE

The first 2 of these Ouïe/Dire discs are superb, the field recordings blend so well with the instruments it's hard to tell where one ends, especially in the case of Martine Altenburger (cello), which is my favorite of the bunch.
Same with the Xavier Charles / Michel Doneda duo, the sound just flows.
Montagne Noire, with the exception of one track could have been a doneda/le quan duo disc instead, as they dominate proceedings a little.

these are late 90s discs but worth investigating (thanks Dan W, for the recommendations), all 3 of these are available here:
