Vancouver 2010

Post by billygomberg »

what up NBC can I get something besides figure skating please or do I need to buy cable for that?

for instance, pretty good chance I'm going to miss this sport:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skeleton_%28sport%29

had fun watching men's moguls finals & women's 3000m speed skate, but feel like I'm missing some good winter sporting so that everyone else can watch people in questionable outfits dance around. yes I can see their talents and abilities on the ice but it just doesn't do it for me.

what else has been good so far?

I've enjoyed everything so far. The moguls, cross country, Nordic combined, and the pairs skating has all been pretty top notch. I haven't checked, but I'm sure NBC is doing the same thing with these games that they did with the Summer games from '08 meaning that they're covering every event but the rest of them are being simulcast online. I'm sure you'll be able to see the skeleton there. They'll probably have that on some of the late might broadcasts as well.

Downhill last night is always my single favorite event, I remember growing up and idolizing Bill Johnson in '84. I was 11 and had Bill Johnson posters all over my bedroom. I made my parents buy my Atomic "red sleds".

Also the Snowboardcross is growing on me. I hate figure skating and the nordic biathalon events.

The short track speedskating final was insane.

Agreed on the snowboardcross. That final race yesterday was fucking wild!

Though, for some odd reason I thought you were a year or two older than me. :?

Now I REALLY feel old! :P

No, I was 14 in '84. I'll be turning the big 4-0 come June.

Brother, I've had a bike almost my entire life from the age of 10. Actually, I'm going to sell my 2003 CBR954RR this summer.

Either way, no midlife crisis for this boy. Hell, I'm finally reaching my prime!

I got pretty into the curling yesterday, Yuko and I both went from ridiculing it to being excited by it over the course of the day. I haven't cared one iota about anything else I've seen so far, looking forward to the better hockey games.

I'm 110% behind Kevin Martin, only thing I've really been looking forward to.

The Japan/US womens match last night was killer.

FWIW, your spoilers are in the wrong shade of black, they're still easily readable on my screen, albeit black on black. not sure what to suggest, just letting you know...

Sorry, I cant fix it. I tried a bunch of different numbers in the font color area. If someone could tell me what the number needs to be, I can tell you its obviously not pure black (#000000). otherwise I wont post anymore spoilers. Sorry about that

I still haven't seen any curling matches yet, but I'm looking forward to them. I know it will sound really funny, but Mr. Pootz and I rented a winter Olympics video game a few months back that had curling on it so we both learned quite a bit about the sport and how it works. It quickly became our favorite event of all the ones included in the game.

Hey, I told you it would sound funny, but what the hell, it turned us onto the sport.

BTW, just a quick note on all the figure skating hate from earlier in the thread, I can't think of a single sport that rivals it in strength and stamina in the short bursts that they skate in. Not to mention insane balance. Think about it, the long programs run four and half minutes. So they're essentially skating three and a half minutes longer than a hockey player does for a normal shift, they're jumping hard enough to remain suspended long enough to spin three to four times in the air, and half the program is done skating at full speed.

Though, Nick DiPaolo had a great line last week when he was filling in for Patrick. "You want to make figure skating more interesting? Blindfold the skaters and park a few cars on the ice."

jon, is Brotherman still on FB at all? I want to ask him if he's working any of the games this year.

the pants of the Norwegian men's curling team are a Games high point for me so far, not sure how many different styles they brought, but wow.

Vonn's run was amazing. She was quite literally skiing on one leg for portions of it. Remarkable. She's also stunningly attractive, and not just in an "athletic" way. She's more attractive than most magazine models.

damn that's a sharp look.

men's snowboard half-pipe had some pretty amazing jams last night. every competitor wearing baggy pants like 1993 was pretty lulzy but damn if those guys don't catch some air. and sometimes totally faceplant.

also caught the short track skating relay - huge wipeout b/w italy/france - that is a crazy race. the wipeout automatically advanced france to the final so there will be five teams in the final, 20 total racers on the track. mayhem. must watch.
