Never listened to Prehistoric Blackout. Really digging it. Had to download it though because...

1. I don't own a stereo unit with working cassette decks

Nmperign - Ommatidia
First listen as it's taken me a while to get hold of this one, but bloody hell it's good. Nothing radically new or cutting edge, I suppose, but does that matter if the music is so beautiful? Exquisite collaborative improvising by two great instrumentalists.

Also, earlier this morning:

Martin Schuttler - Pelze und Restposten (Furs and Remainders), on Wergo's Zeitgenossische Musik series of portrait cd's of contemporary German composers.
He's one of the composers associated with the stock11.de group who I'm listening to quite a bit at the moment. On the stock11.de cd itself, his compositions aren't my favourites by any means, but this collection is really good. Unmistakably in the classical tradition in terms of instrumentation, but also having a rough, edgy urban feel, using lo-tech electronics & sounds from everyday life, refusing to let music be held separate from the rough and tumble of contemporary living.
Less beautiful than Ommatidia, but more cutting edge and challenging.

With tracks entitled "Drill Into Your Eye" "Drill Into Your Heart" "Drill Into Your Throat" and "Drill Into Your Brain" it's obviously a homage to Abel Ferrara.

That was my impulse too - and what an awesome tribute it is! (though I think I'm probably alone in even prefering it to Oscillation Vascillation...)

Did you see FdW's Vital review of it this week where he proposed it was obviously a tribute to Thriller? Hadn't even occured to me but I wonder if there's a possible dual intention there? Or maybe somebody just needs to rent Driller Killer already and up his cultural capital.
