Cardinals' starter Wainwright bitterly said it's possible Holliday lost the ball in the waving white playoff towels which were handed out at Dodger Stadium, and suggested MLB do something about that trend. VERY odd to see Holliday get eaten up by a routine line drive without all that much mustard on it, and usually a fielder will pick one direction (the correct one) to position his glove and stay with it. As much as this could be called an excuse, I think there might be something to that just because the play was so odd.

Yeah, I think Waino was just being a good teammate. Videos don't show the crowd waving or even cheering until after the error. I just hope his twins are still ok.

I don't buy Wainwright's excuse for shit. Holliday just had a moment, that's all. It just happened at the worst possible time.

Looks as though this post season will be exactly opposite of their run to the WS win last time. They were probably the worst team in the playoffs that year and won it all. They are definitely the best in the NL this year and won't even make it out of the first round.

not saying it's totally rational, but how much money did Lackey make himself and Holliday lose himself yesterday? eight figures on their upcoming deals in both cases, I bet. Abreu also helped his case, although he's a timebomb in the OF just waiting to happen, he'd be a nice fulltime DH.

and before you argue on Holliday, keep in mind that it would be a tough call for Boston between him and Bay, with part of the argument for him being that he's a better defensive player.

No, it's not over. But 0-2 against the Dodgers makes for an incredibly steep climb. To not even split Carp/Wainy starts really hurts.

And who gives a fuck about Boston and who they'd have to choose? The Cards will lock up Holliday and Pujols this winter. Boston can go fuck themselves and find somebody else to overpay in their high dollar pissing match with the Yankees.

Holliday is a Boras client, he'll probably go to whoever offers him the most. that may be St. Louis, especially after his mediocre stint in the AL. I think Boston will stick with Bay, and the Yankees will maybe hold out for Carl Crawford in winter 2010.

Sorry, I just get a little irritated when Yankees or Red Sox fans talk about signing the best FA's on the market as though they've got first rights and everybody else gets whatever is left over. A huge reason why a cap should be implemented, as I've stated before.

St. Louis is one hell of a baseball town. And when you witness it firsthand it's kind of sickening that they aren't right up there with New York and Boston in popularity. Second most WS titles and, in my experience, the best professional sports fan base in the country.

I agree with the general sentiment here on Abreu. Pitching around Abreu feeds right into what he's trying to accomplish; take about 15 pitches to wear down your pitcher and draw a walk. He's a very good hitter, but go right at him and hope he hits it at someone. The Tigers pitchers used that strategy to great effect against him when he played for the Yankees in 2006.

St. Louis really is a fantastic baseball town. And I'd be remiss if I failed to point out that my hometown team had the 4th highest attendance in the A.L. behind NY, LAA and Boston (they were 3rd in 2008). When you factor in the size of the city and the economy, that's pretty damn good.

From a distance it seems like the Tigers and their fans have a great relationship with each other. During this down economy it seems that no other team was more behind their fans. They always speak about how important it is for them to give their fans a quality diversion from the misery that many of them are living through. That has been really nice to see.

Hell, Royals players won't even acknowledge their fans at the stadium. Kids getting autographs signed at the K is a rare sight. That's a shame. I wish I would have latched onto the Cards when I moved here. They are a far classier organization in every aspect.
