"FWIW that might be the worst umpiring crew in the history of post season baseball. Bucknor, Gibson AND Merriweather? Oh and Joe West, the umpire who is well known to hate the Sox as much as any man ever.

At least in Joe's defense he's a decent ump, albeit one who has stated EXPLICITLY on the field he holds grudges and gets even, CB, Gibby and Chuck just suck, no two ways about it. Chuck's at least a nice guy though. He feels bad when he blows calls. CB has never been good enough to ID a bad or missed call and as far as Gibby knows he's NEVER MADE a bad call.

Quoted for TRUTH. Also, in West's favor, he's only failed to call one inning-ending strike, where Bucknor's got the edge by blowing two completely obvious outs at first so far.

I'm gonna give Francona a 60% chance of being ejected if this keeps up.

That crew is bad, but Bucknor stands out from the rest. He and Blas Diaz are the two worst umps I've seen in my lifetime, at least as far as calling balls/strikes goes.

yeah, I caught up on DVR in the interim, now I see what you mean. Bucknor's two blown calls at first didn't matter much, except hiking Lester's pitch count a bit, but LA didn't score in either of those innings. the blown call on Hunter at third did likely cost LA a run or two, but hopefully it won't matter.

Couldn't believe Holliday dropped that ball. The tension that fell over the Cards after that was palpable. Huge at bats for Blake, Belliard, and Loretta. Wouldn't have bet the Dodgers would be up 2-0 with those two outstanding pitchers taking the hill for the Cardinals. Great outing from Kershaw.

Cardinals' starter Wainwright bitterly said it's possible Holliday lost the ball in the waving white playoff towels which were handed out at Dodger Stadium, and suggested MLB do something about that trend. VERY odd to see Holliday get eaten up by a routine line drive without all that much mustard on it, and usually a fielder will pick one direction (the correct one) to position his glove and stay with it. As much as this could be called an excuse, I think there might be something to that just because the play was so odd.

I guess Lackey was due to pitch a good game against the Sox. One bad pitch by Lester was the difference as Ramirez hopefully doesn't get in any game closer than 3 runs - damn di he spit the bit..

as far as the umps, at least it wasn't the difference in the game. West must have missed at least 15 easy ball-strike calls - the one where he didn't call Hunter out was pathetic as well as the numerous called strikes on pitches way outside. In one AB to Ortiz he called 2 pitches that were nowhere near the plate strikes - too bad Ortiz didnt come close to hitting a damn thing the whole night

I also think that Drew needs to move up in the order - he is the best hitter on the team the last 45 days so the 8 hole isn't the right spot for him right now.

The Sox need the game tonight and I will miss the stress as I will be seeing Evan Parker instead.

The Sox need to take advantage of Sciosia bunting away outs and Vlad looking like a hole in the 4 hole. Also missed taking advantage of Sciosia playing Mathis was huge.


we will see....Sox need to make this a battle of the bullpens and then they have a good shot to win this thing if they get prime Beckett tonight.


and please make Abreu hit the ball and make him try to catch it. Very frustraing seeing Lester nibble with him. Despite Hunter's HR, him Vald & Rivera can be pitched to. They have their best hitter batting 6th.

people are so wrong for giving Scioscia flak on this, and Girardi on Molina tonight. if you have deep lineups like those two teams and your backup catcher is a decided help to your pitcher (Mathis has caught Lackey for some time, just like Burnett/Molina), the offensive downgrade is easily worth it. stat boy fans don't seem to grasp this one yet.
