Did he send you a promo of the Josef Reidl 2cd?
if so - how is it?

You mean Joseph Anton Riedl? There's an old Wergo-LP which includes a few pieces I like, so this RZ-title might be interesting as well.

Yes, that's the fella, that old LP is great (there's a creel pone cd of it too), just interested whether those pieces were the highlights of this new release or if there's more gems been unearthed.

oh, right, I have that Creel Pone too, that's why the name sounded familiar. I'm pretty sure the RZ one isn't out yet.

Planet Oeuf

This is what Günter Müller told me about this record in the interview I had with him:
Planet Oeuf was a kind of workshop; some improvisors had invited Phil Wachsmann and Phil Durrant to work with in 1985. It was so satisfying that we decided to make this record (the first real record for most of us).

Patrick Kosk-Mondweiß (Edition RZ)

this was included as a promo with the package of other Edition RZ titles I received today for ErstDist. maybe it's partly because I'd never heard of Kosk and my expectations were minimal, but I'm quite enjoying this.

Kosk is a German composer born in 1951, and this is a collection of musique concrete pieces spanning his career (most are recent, but a few are older, one is from 1981), and the palette and use of space is nice. Edition RZ's main series (the ones that are designed in this template) seem to always be worthwhile to fantastic, great label.
This is a superb disc. (seems to be in stock at JazzLoft)
Played loud it is totally immersive, like being in the engine of a great big ship in motion.
Spectacular layering of events.

(various artists) - Pyrotechinics (New British Jazz from Blue Note)

British Blue Note compilation with Orphy Robinson, Django Bates, Tony Remy, Sylvan Richardson, Jr., Tommy Smith and The Mondesir Bros.

"New" as of 1992. Thanks and Bright Moments to my friend Roy Newton for bringing this back from the U.K. a decade-and-a-half or so ago for me.

thought it was OK, better than most improv from that time I've heard from that general crew (the Atavistic reissues, Three & Four Pullovers), but didn't care about it much. my pick from that general area is still probably Beresford's Bath of Surprise, but it's never been a group of musicians I got too deeply into (I know you feel very differently). I bet they did some cool shows back in the day, though...

did you review this one?

Yep

http://www.paristransatlantic.com/magaz ... ext.html#8

for those that can't be bothered to scroll down -

What's a hip young label like Schoolmap doing releasing a 32-year-old recording of a free improv trio in a performing space in North London, taped on a Sony cassette player and previously only available on an obscure label (Bead)? The answer, presumably, is that it's somehow relevant to today's "market" – make that "niche market", or, better still, just "niche." Well, yes, some of the strange hoots, clatters and smacks, courtesy David Toop (flutes and whistles too numerous to mention), Paul Burwell (percussion etc etc) and Nestor Figueras ("movement, respiratory and vocal sounds [sic – I'd like to hear a vocal sound that isn't respiratory], body percussion") wouldn't be out of place on a recent Taku Unami album, were it not perhaps for the recording, which is understandably hissy, even if it manages to capture the sound of "DT stumbling into the microphone" and the groan of passing traffic (come to think of it, there's quite a lot of passing traffic on recent ultra-minimal / EAI outings too, but never mind). Toop's arabesques and Burwell's rattles sound more like they were recorded in a hut in some tropical rainforest (Improvised Music from Borneo, anyone?) than off a back street in Hornsey, and that's part of the disc's charm: "the urgency" – to quote my esteemed fellow Wire scribbler Clive Bell – "of excited young performers who have just hit on something special." Elsewhere in his Wire write-up, Bell explains that a cholagogue is a bile stimulator (!?), but you needn't let that spoil your enjoyment of this vintage slab of "second generation" British free improv.

I'd like to know why Giuseppe picked this one. Anyone asked him? Meanwhile, with you on Bath Of Surprise all the way (one of Otomo's favourite albums too, as I recall).

yeah, that's the thing, it is arguably 'ahead of its time' or a predecessor to some current music, but it's not very exciting and the music it can be argued as anticipating isn't generally very exciting either, plus I doubt it was actually directly influential. but I am glad I heard it, even if I doubt I'll ever play it again.

Haven't listen it. Is it close to Circadian rhythm [Incus 33] (Parker, Toop, Burwell, Davies, Lovens, Lytton, Eastley, Nicolson)?
