How is this version, Grisha? I'm a big Henck fan but not a great lover of that ECM sound. I have two other versions of this piece, one by Sylvain Cambreling on the 3CD WDR box, the other Claude Helffer on the old Astree LP, but always up for a new reading. I think this piece is one of the great piano works of the 20th century, full stop.

Dan, i know only other version - by Stefan Litwin (not Sylvain Cambreling) from the box. what do you think about it? because i never managed to get through the whole thing (i like the rest of the set). he really sounds like he just can't play on that one. i like Henck, so i decided to try this one, and I'm enjoying it quite a bit. it's some 10 minutes shorter than Litwin's. the ECM sound never bothered me much on their classical releases, and i don't find it too intrusive here. so i think it's worth a try.

The piece or the interpretation? Haven't heard it for a while, but I remember being rather unimpressed. Then again I have a soft spot for Helffer, who plays it likes it's Beethoven (appropriate, I think - Barraqué was the real romantic of those post war serialists).
