V/A- Open Strings: Early Virtuoso Recordings From the Middle East, And New Responses

CD A is simply phenomenal. CD B has only a few fine moments and yet i think it is a must-have compilation

i'm looking forward to that one (haven't seen it at distro stateside yet) but i really wish there was a version with just disc 1.

even though i like several of the artists on the second disc, i'm uncomfortable with the context. i dunno.

The only Dylan studio release from the past 25 years I have liked from the first to the last track.

I would make that 35 yrs, safely, with Hurricane the last Dylan song I can take.

His King Earl album is a great one.
Parr is a local, I catch him often and he is always gripping.
King Earl is, no hyperbole intended, an instant classic, timeless story-telling and heartbreaking.
totally agreed, that's definitely my favorite of his.
play with him a fair amount and have done some really fun tours with him. check out this song we recorded together last year -- on the fly arrangement of john hardy that, imo, just smokes. usually not too fond of this piece and the tepid interpretations that are so bountiful in the folk scenes and such -- www.myspace.com/blacktwigs

Have you checked out the first 8 or so releases, Gohlee?
If not, you have great listening ahead of you.

according to wiki this are the first 8 of Dylan:
Bob Dylan 1962
The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan 1963
The Times They Are a-Changin' 1964
Another Side of Bob Dylan 1964
Bringing It All Back Home 1965
Highway 61 Revisited 1965
Blonde on Blonde 1966
John Wesley Harding 1967

i listened to most of them, in mid 90s a friend was very into early Dylan and brought those cds.
