Has anyone experianced incompatibility issues with regard to SDHC format SD memory cards?
I recently purchased one thinking that it *might* work in my Edirol R09, it didnt.. but then it also didnt even function as a pen drive with my cheap Dell, or ibook G4.. are these things really new? (not noticed their existence until researching to buy a new SD)
Can anyone send info about which sound recorders are compatible?
Or general advice on their performance in sound recording??

compatibility with SDHC on audio devices is not standard. As the format is generally for photographic use lots of the developments have been with that technology in mind. Therefore most camera's that take SD will take SDHC but hardly any audio recorders will & the ones that do have reported issues with speeds.
SDHC has more storage space than SD but that doesn't mean a great deal if your gear can't use it.
They are also not that good for recording because their transfer speeds are quite low compared to CF for example. CF is the way to go but this tends to be on better quality equipment.
Most folks I meet who have SD recorders always suggest getting very good media - avoid the low cost ones because they often don't write or corrupt the files. Stick with the quality names such as Sandisk or seagate if you're in the US.

you may notice in the packaging for your SDHC card, only in a place you could have seen it after you bought and unpackaged it, that micro SDHC cards are only compatible with devices that support microSDHC. which is fucked, because i bought one with a regular sized SD adapter, and the card doesn't work in any of my standard SD devices, including my camera! why bother with the adapter if it's fucking useless?
