i keep meaning to ask mike how i'm supposed to listen to the kfw tapes-- on 8 speakers, or mixed down to 2 speakers? presumably each tape is in stereo, so it's not really quadraphonic. for 4 speakers, you'd have to sum each tape to mono. i don't really know what to do here. any ideas?

I figured the whole point of this was that there isn't really a 'right' way to listen to it, and that each individual playback method will yield a variation on the Dream House.

I'll probably make a mix-down of the tapes so I can listen to all of them on one stereo (I know that's cheating and probably not how it's supposed to be played... but I want to listen on my ipod at work!)

As stated in the press release, this is intended as an octaphonic release, spread those speakers out around the room! I suspect that there's not only panning between stereo channels, but across tapes too, knowing how crafty kfw can be! Any confirmation on this would be neato.

When this whole cassette resurgence hit (or rather when I noticed it) I swore myself a solemn oath not to get sucked in, at the time it seemed like a neat way of limiting music expenditure (i kidded myself). I get the feeling now that I've bought the kfw pack the floodgates might be creaking open.

I am now eyeing the two recent tapes by work/death one on arbor, one on monorail trespassing (opinions welcome). This chap seems to have more cassettes in his discography than anything else.

buy those. also anything on scott's own label (three songs of lenin) is definitely worth picking up.

i think i wrote about a handful of work/death tapes on cassette gods, but the important thing is: although his work is pretty varied and often straddles many sub-genres, it is (as far as i've experienced) some of the most consistently powerful and moving music around right now. i can't even describe what a treat it is to see him live-- always different, but always stunning.

There's some interesting looking releases on Callow God. I've ordered the Everyday Loneliness double cassette - which is Jon Borges' new project, cos i've loved his stuff as Emaciator.

i've also been gathering stuff on arbor, monorail trespassing, and hanson since starting this thread. keep meaning to write up thoughts on some of it, but it gets to be a little overwhelming.

i assume everyone had a chance at the drumm tape on aklu? it's sold out at the source now, but i guess it should start appearing in distros soon. it's really good, but then i keep saying that about drumm's tapes anyway.

Yeah I was figuring that Drumm tape would be seen by a lot of folk around here as a return to form (at least to those not keen on Imperial Distortion), I've only heard it through once and not really focusing so can't say a lot.

I'm waiting for the Emeralds/Dilloway collab. on Hanson, the Hive Mind on Gods of Tundra and a bunch of Arbor/Monorail stuff (those two labels seem to be making the most interesting tapes this week!)
