The quartet's not bad at all, but I much prefer the duo. If you're a real Guionnet nut you really should check out Calx, his duo with Perraud.

I must say I am still trying to figure out Jean-Luc's music. It is hard as he seems to be all over the map. But in a +ve way, a bit of a Frank Zappa figure (not sure why), totally capable (he does remind me of Coltrane on his jazzier discs) but also totally restless in his explorations from minimalist zen-like stuff, field recordings, noise, eai, or on the [ON] disc.

i'll check Calx out for sure (though from a quick google it looks like another hard set to locate).

It's a 144 page (!) book with magnificent photos, text in French and Chinese, and a CD included, field recordings from Taiwan and Auvergne, very nicely done indeed. I was hunting around for label info online, but couldn't find any - my copy came, I presume, from the artists' collective in the Auvergne who released it. I don't have Yannick's email address but I can get it if you're interested - this should be right up your street Richard.

What's your take on this? I picked up on vinyl a while back on a whim; I cannot say I've given it much of a listen.

For what it's worth, their choice of covers is fairly interesting - Black Flag, Foetus, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Small Faces, The Damned. Otherwise, the music is ok....just ok. This was my first time that I've heard the CD since early 90's, believe it or not....

Beautiful stuff, Togolese music has range and spirit. The "lullaby" captured in the kitchen of a young woman astonished at being recorded is truly sublime:
