Notable for two things: One--is it just me or to British MCs still seem a little nerdy? Two--is Durrty bringing back the rare and much-maligned Hitler mustache?

Kode9's Black Sun Ep has dropped. i think i'd take the B over the A but both are nice... definitely existing somewhere in hybrid territory (wearing some funky influence... but good luck finding another synth track over that way that sounds like either of these...)

Sully's latest EP Track Side is more naughty future garage... right up there with TRG on that tip. i am definitely spending a lot of time checking out old garage and two step myself right now, and i think in general it is seeing a bit of resurgence--cropping up in radio sets from Brackles, Oneman, Night Slugs, Untold, Ruffage, Dusk and Blackdown... not to mention the fact that the Blackdown A&Red EL-B comp "The Roots of El-B" has finally surfaced (and if you don't know the Ghost stuff, you should def give it a go!).

along those lines, the next big thing for me (aside from Martyn) would be the forthcoming Hessle Audio 12" featuring a couple of really minimal swingers from Joe... Rut is cropping up in radio shows all over the place (see any of the above).
i'm hoping Pangaea's Memories will be quick on that one's heels...? apparently supposed to get a release somewhere...

Not exactly a new album anymore, but I've been listening to Benga's 'Diary of an Afro Warrior' a lot lately.
Re: i hate dubstep
Weird, a Snoop Dogg dubstep song. Not so interesting musically, but I wonder if this will become a trend for American hop-hop artists.

Re: i hate dubstep
inevitable. that will prolly start coming up a bit.
i hold out for the possibility that some good will come of it... so far nothing tho.
that's the ocean gulf right there... all the good stuff gets lost somewhere over the atlantic.
i think legitimate crossover is more likely to take place between US House and UK Funky (really, it already has...), but that said, there's nothing stopping someone like the Blockbeaterz from listening to all the same tracks i've been listening to... as opposed to just "cherry" picking the numb-thump of Caspa and Rusko... who are getting backing from Diplo now, as it happens...

well the beat is that chase and status track 'eastern jam' which isn't very interesting to begin with. someone call me when hip hop producers try their hand at dubstepJoda wrote:Weird, a Snoop Dogg dubstep song. the only thing good about that track is Wayne and the tiny high pitched plink beats that come in off the back half. the blandness of the beat kind of compliments the accapella i guess... but... damn.
the most recent dusk and blackdown Rinse set is up... nice tracks from Joker & Ginz, VVV, Grievous Angel, Geiom... a lot of it is quite good actually. and mostly plates too.

Dunno if it is straight dubstep but any comments about The Bug feat. Cutty Ranks - Gun disease?

Terrible pun, middling tune. Good vocals, but I don't like the overbearing distorted drums. Or really anything about the music.yonhosago wrote:Dunno if it is straight dubstep but any comments about The Bug feat. Cutty Ranks - Gun disease?

Joe's Grimelight/Rut 12" inch is out on Hessle Audio finally. Rut is amazing.

swings like crazy. Hessle Audio is amazing so no real surprise there i guess. believe they have some Untold forthcoming as well... that feller is pretty hot right now: between his own productions, and other stuff that he is releasing on Hemlock.
the James Blake tune dropped in this mix is an amazing example of what i'm talking about. and there are two Untold tunes in there to boot. (and yeh: Rut into Groove Chronicles' stone cold classic... uh... Stone Cold, ahem)

a lot of funky and other house in that mix. Ben UFO is the DJ i follow religiously these days.

yeah im a fan too. i was disappointed in supligen at first compared to his first single (bk 2 the future was one of my favorite tracks of 2008) but it quickly grew on me.dave quam wrote:Scumtron turned me on to Gemmy, who's "bk 2 the future" and supligen 12''s have been on constant rotation over the last few days
