Akira Kiteshi - Pinball 12''

am really enjoying this.
the a-side samples the classic pointer sisters pinball counting song from sesame street, if i'm not mistaken.

Feldman/Skempton -- Triadic Memories - Notti Stellate a Vagli (Tilbury)

So great to hear another take on my favorite Feldman piece! It's dedicated to Sue Skempton "who was present at the concert," I am assuming this was Howard's late wife?

Countdown to Ecstasy is my favorite Dan album.

They got the shapely bods
They got the Steely Dan T-shirt

I'll be dead honest - friends of mine loved the band decades ago. They tried and tried to get me hooked on them but I didn't bite. It wasn't until last month that I discovered I actually needed to hear their music for some reason....one thing led to another and I can't stop listening to their 70's output. There's something unmistakably warm in their songs....I love the lyrics too.

Some of the best rock lyrics ever. Cant Buy A Thrill is spotty - they hadnt really gotten their "sound" down yet - and the later albums Aja and Gaucho dont do much for me, but those middle albums are pretty great. I overdosed on Steely Dan in college, took about a 5-6 year break from listening to them at all, but now I dip into those 4 albums infrequently a really love them from a musical and nostalgical perspective.

1. Countdown to Ecstasy
2. Royal Scam
3. Katy Lied
4. Pretzel Logic
5. Aja
6. Can't Buy A Thrill
7. The Nightfly (Fagan)

1. Countdown to Ecstasy (Your Gold Teeth, Showbiz Kids)
2. Gaucho (Glamour Profession, most yay laden record ever)
3. Nightfly (Maxine, Goodbye Look, Green Flower Street)
4. Royal Scam (Haitian Divorce)
5. Katy Lied (Your Gold Teeth II)

Can't Buy a Thrill is unlistenable garbage save Fire in the Hole. Abbey is HUGE Donald Fagen fan.

I'm pretty good at being quiet these days, but somehow my opinions make it in anyway... :D

Pretzel Logic if I have to pick one, but I sold them all long ago.

Yeah Jon, I couldn't agree more. Man, never knew you liked them - I still enjoy 'em.
Always my favorite - Pretzel Logic and Countdown/Can't Buy a Thrill still get listens. I know I've seen Royal Scam on the tops for many - always my least favorite but I ignored them after Aja.

Man this is so good, better than the LondonHall in my opinion after a few listens. There's a note that one should ostensibly alter playback volume according to score from Feldman's ppp to ppppp denotations, yet we're only given one page in the liners. Alas, I always try to defy records with listening instructions. Fantastic, about to spin again.

toshi ichiyanagi (sound) + yoji kuri (manga) "drip music"(book+cd)
edition omega point archive series opa-009

First listen to this and it's pretty great. I love how Ichiyanagi's electronics usually flirt right on the edge of chaos. They also (just barely) avoid a lot of the cliched electronic cheese that a lot of 60s stuff reviled in. Anyway this is worth getting though I can't say the more expensive version with the Manga (which is what I've got) is essential - the manga is pretty cute, but you can definitely live without it. This image shows the first page of the manga, the front cover looks like this:

Albert Collins, Ice Pickin' [Alligator, 1978]

The highlight: his tough and bitingly clear fills and solos over a chorus of horns on "When the Welfare Turns Its Back on You."
