Little Walter and others, The Blues World of Little Walter [Delmark]

A compilation of sessions, mostly recorded in 1950. There's an astonishing version of "Rollin' and Tumblin', pt. 1 & 2'" sung and thumped out on bass drum by "Baby Face" Leroy Foster. Little Walter's fluid harmonica playing is still unamplified at this point, with Muddy Waters's modest but towering presence looming large in the background, chanting encouragement and doubling Walter's riffs on slide guitar.

Ara - Pick Up and Run 2007 [What the …? Records]

This one got lost in the pile...been really enjoying it the last week or so.
"An Edition of 177 copies on Spencer Yeh of Burning Star Core’s own label documenting two live performances from this group that features Sara O’Keefe (Handicapper Horns/Eyes & Arms Of Smoke) and Trevor Tremaine (Hair Police/Burning Star Core/Death Unit et al). The sound is primitive, laid-back/stoned free jazz and electronics, with O’Keefe blowing brief halos of folk tone that Tremaine echoes and mutates via subtle shots of electricity while the two of em raise revenant vocal tones high above the din. One of the nicest reconciliations of free/folk in a while. Packaged in individually unique screened/sprayed sleeves"

Apparently recorded before an audience of beautiful women at Daniel Lanois's house. 8-) Sounds great.

I saw Tetuzi in Milwaukee a few years ago at a small gallery space. The first half was acoustic, just okay, what I expected. About thirty people, very well heeled looking for better or likely worse. The second half was the boogie, very loud compounded with the tiny room. Everybody save for about three people immediately walked out but in order to save hipster face, watched through the glass storefront.

He played three gigs here. I played with him in two of them, the first and third. Sadly I didn't was for the second in Valparaiso where he played the boogie set. Some people walked away, some people stay and suffered ear pain. Very few liked it.

This is shockingly good. Why didn't it get any press?
The grammatical rules associated with diagrammatic reduction become apparent by considering a more tractable diagrammatic representation, applied to the Windsor knot in Fig. 8. - Fink & Mao, Tie knots, random walks and topology, (Physica A 276)

I thought that was an interesting one, in parts at least. Its principal feature, as I remember it, is that it changes style with almost every track. The guitarist is also set against three brass and wind players (tuba, trumpet, sax and flute), who together in some parts form a kind of chorus. It opens with a drone, then lurches into guitar twanging and then on to pointillism and other stylistic references. As for press (unless you were referring just to IHM), it was reviewed extremely favourably by Kurt Gottschalk in Signal to Noise and by Philip Clark in the Wire.

oh, ok. Yeah, I'm pretty much only aware of the internet since I've never read any of the relevant magazines.
