Re: Recent purchases redux
Does the Kick that Habit DVD have any added bonus features that make it an essential purchase? I may settle with my VHS copy....jon abbey wrote:Various-Source Records 1-6 Music Of The Avant Garde, 1968-1971 (Pogus)

What's the Toop DVD all about?

Re: Recent purchases redux
I didn't open them yet, but I think the Liechti is just the film. the Toop:
"...A Portrait Of David Toop Through His Records Collection. In his home in the northern part of London, David Toop plays us records for several days and asks: does music have any limits? Is the collective vomiting of Amazonian shamans on a vision quest music, or not? What about the funeral dirges of the Potu people? How did New Orleans jazz-bassist John Levy's recordings radically change our perceptions? How did improvised music and electronica redefine some secular frontiers? What influence did solitary rockabilly singer Hasil Adkins have on Finnish electronic group Panasonic? Sub Rosa presents a 90-minute film of these questions and more in a 96-minute film, directed by Guy-Marc Hinant and Dominique Lohl. However, this film is not only about music, it is about speech patterns, and the moments where speech progresses towards exhaustion, where at any moment, words are lost, the body's limits take hold, and the film is over. Toop's record collection is endless, but after a while, the man gets tired, as if envisioning himself commenting on tens of thousands of records, one by one. Could that be done? At one point, the tone switches from the desire to continue to the desire to see it all stop. A type of despondency and hidden sadness is revealed. 96 minutes; double-sided DVD in both NTSC & PAL formats; region-free; in English with French subtitles. "

The Toop DVD sounds enticing to say the least.....Please report on what it's like after you pop it into the player....

I believe I 'berated' you for asking for opinions on a disc you owned but hadn't yet unwrapped. I'm not asking for opinions, I merely posted that I bought these today, as this is the recent purchases thread.

How is it that I deserved to be berated as I had no time to listen to certain release while you get away scratch-free?jon abbey wrote:I believe I 'berated' you for asking for opinions on a disc you owned but hadn't yet unwrapped. It matters not that you bought the DVDs. What's the take on what's inside the package is all I ask!

Since when is this thread about semantics....I can comprehend fine, thanks for your concern
Maybe people should cease to publish things they bought and not yet heard/watched.
Perhaps another thread is required along the lines of "recent items purchased, not yet heard / still sealed"

Jimmy Giuffre - Free Fall, which is pretty damn good & the liner notes are hilarious:

...We come to NOW and this album, YGGDRASILL!!!

I only recall it from Golden Palominos Blast of Silence intro and outro....
