russian film question

[miso]

I remember seeing a great Russian film on British television (c.4) in the 80's about an ornithologist who travels to a remote archipelligo and falls in love with a local woman. I know it's not much to go on but does anybody know what this is?
Thanks.

possibly this?

Peter Greenaway - A Walk Through H: The Reincarnation of an Ornithologist (1978)

[miso]

No not Greenaway, good as he and A walk is. The one I saw was definitely Russian and had a more straightfoward narrative. I think also it was in b/w.
Those were the days when C4 broadcast quality world cinema.

hmmmm....probably not this then......

Sidney Lumet - Chekov's 'The Sea Gull' (1968)

Vaatleja (1988)
... aka Nablyudatel (Soviet Union: Russian title)
... aka The Observer (International: English title)

Director - Arvo Iho

Thanks. Looks like it all right.

I was just thinking about how a bird watcher movie would work. Thanks for this recommendation.
