Well...No one else has started this show off..

What's your list?

ahhh my holiday season just wouldn't be complete without the traditional "Hey let's start a best of thread" "What the hell there's 2/3/4 weeks left in the year" thread.
I bet that if everyone starts arguing now, and then someone posts whatever increasingly bonkers stuff the Wire gives the nod to, we'll all have something to keep us busy until at least early January.

The 5 Modules records that came out this year were awesome. so was Sweet Cuts, Distant Curves. So was the Lachenmann String Quartets disc on Kairos. I liked the shit that Chris and I put out on Formed. Jon Eckhardt's "Xlyobiont" was rad, at least the samples I heard on various websites, I should pick it up. Everything Toshimaru Nakamura was involved with, unless I'm forgetting something crappy. Both CRAX and the Rowe / Fuhler were great.

I was less into the Chamber Music 3cd set on Hibari etc., Jonathan Harvey's Body Mandala, and Sciarrino's Storie di altre storie.

I'm looking forward to the Erst stuff that's coming out now / soon, the wedding ceremony disc out on Cathnor, the Sciarrino orchestral works and Klangforum Wien multidisc things from Kairos, that's it?

As usual, I have no idea what year things were released or when I bought them, apologies if I posted this exact list last year or something.

Asher Thal-Nir Graceful Degradations

Jason Lescalleet/Graham Lambkin The Breadwinner

Cor Fuhler Slee

Christian Weber Walcheturm Solo

Toshimaru Nakamura/Annette Krebs Siyu

Vanessa Rossetto Whoreson In The Wilderness

Will Guthrie Unreleased 7" (fucking great, very suprising project)

Being unemployed from May '08 to the present, I didn't purchase many 2008 releases. I spent more time with stuff released between '98-'05, largely in the field recording area.
Not certain of the B-Boim release dates for 3 Backgrounds and Rain Speak..., I love those two Malfatti offerings. Same with the timing of Joda Clement's Motion & Rest (I think I am a latecomer to this one), very nice work.

edit: Same release date confusion for Angharad Davies/Tisha Mukarji's Endspace, a really strong date, highly recommended.

Experimental music should be something that suggests a way of organizing your thinking, your attitude toward the world, which suggests that the world could be different.

the breadwinner has yet to be mentioned.

while i mostly sat this one out on the experimental tip, i have a hard time envisioning much else holding my attention like that did (and will continue to).

Lambkin's recent works remain a breath of (stale) fresh air, and an ongoing source of inspiration for myself.

so i am mentioning it.

the plus side for those out there who find the whole list before the end of the year thing to be premature: it's always useful to have other people sticking their necks out from whose lists one can cherrypick.

edit: erryes, errsorry, Jesse.

and there are pretty useless statements like this one.

We are not all looking for the same things in music, so that's the point of saying what we like best.

The point is to tell us what you liked best, it's even fine to point out specific disagreements so we can discuss. Or even shut up, why not ?

I would add Loren Chasse - The footpath (naturestrip) to my list. I hope it's not an "awful record"...
