Jakob Ullmann Voice, Books and FIRE 3 (Edition RZ)
Jakob Ullmann seems to be kind of a one trick pony. But, as our own Faster would put it, it's a pretty good trick. His A Catalogue of Sounds would definitely rank toward the upper end of my all time favs but everything else I've managed to hear from him (which admittedly isn't a lot) doesn't fall too far from that tree. This release, which I've listened to about four times now, takes the same low volume murmuring instruments and adds some low volume murmuring voices. These voices, murmur texts, warble sustained notes and other evocations. These vocalizations are in one word, cheesy, which are perhaps partly the fault of the performers - I imagine this is a difficult task and only a few vocalists could convincingly pull off. It's kind of reminds me in a way of Aphrodite's Child 666 with all of the self-seriousness, ponderousness and general cheese but without any of the unintentional fun. That being said if you play it at low volume (as instructed to) it does just kind of blend in with fridge, passing cars and the like as if someone is playing 666 in your neighbors backyard.

I should mention that there are fantastic segments in this, even at times with some of the vocalizations. The first ten minutes (guessing here) are quite nice and a lot of the last ten as well. Though the very end has a lot of whispering, which lets face it is always going to be a particularly stinky form of cheese.
