After Alastair in the King Crimson thread mentioned my favorite Van Der Graaf Generator track is included on this one, I just bought it:
Image
(Peter Hammill "Chameleon in the Shadow of the Night" - my first Hammill solo record ever)

I find the trashy version of Black Room (on V.d.G.G.'s Time Vaults) so much better (and hope there's anything else on this CD I might like... didn't check out anything else yet).
. . . .

just got these in, along with a couple of other recent Al Maslakh releases. I'm closed after Saturday for a couple of weeks while I'm in Tokyo, but will be happy to process and ship any orders that come by tomorrow night...

There's plenty of live versions of "(In The) Black Room" on boots form 1972 and 1975/6 that perhaps have more of the intensity that I guess you're looking for. The version on "Time Vaults" is pretty low-fi but also intense. What else you might like on the CD? Don't know. It's not one of his better solo records, although "In The End" and "German Overalls" are worth listening to. The one after this, "The Silent Corner and the Empty Stage" is better, and for my money, "In Camera", the one after that, is superb. Then there's his punk record and yada yada I could go on for hours.

Anyway, I've not bought anything recently although my copy of Jon Mueller's "Metals" \m/ dropped through my letterbox just as my means to play it was taken away in a box to London docks. Glad I d/led it a while ago

Found a great big pile of Korean, HK, Taiwanese, Chinese and Japanese pop lps at a thrift shop here on the weekend. About 40 of the things, at 20 cents each.

That new Basic Channel CD should have been a box with all the full length 12"s in it.

In Tokyo I got these from Jon:

Stephane Rives - Much Remains to be Heard
Christian Wolff - Exercise 15 (Wandelweiser)
Krebs/Nakamura
Christian Weber - Walcheturm Solo
Cardew - Piano Music 1959-1970 (John Tilbury)
SLW (Formed)
Earle/Guthrie/Sussman - Bridges

I got this at the merch table at one of the shows:

Minoru Sato/Ami Yoshida - COMPOSITION for voice performer (1997 and 2007)

and then went with Mudd to like twelve hundred Disc Union shops, where I picked up:

Masters of the Delta Blues - The Friends of Charlie Patton (Yazoo)
Ma Rainey's Black Bottom (Yazoo)
James Tenney - Selected Works 1961-1969 ( Artifact)
Marvin Gaye - Here, My Dear (finally got this for real. One of my all-time favorites and the only of his I really feel the need to own)

Then came home to Seoul and found this in my mailbox:

Lucio Capece, Sergio Merce - Casa (Organized Music from Thessaloniki)
You, of all people, should understand

I love it, absolutely. And admittedly I get very confused when it comes to labeling this stuff, ambient, electronic, processed field, so forth. I could try to make comparisons but doubtless someone here will shoot me down. It's certainly not revelatory stuff, you should see some of the statements flying around about how important it is. See that sticker on the Fennesz Live In Japan cellophane to get at what I mean. Thoroughly enjoyable disc though.

World Receiver is name-checked by this blogger who posts a nice shortwave mix in the same style.

http://lowlightmixes.blogspot.com/2008/ ... phase.html

I really like the feel of it, reminds me of listening to my shortwave back in my West African Bush House London days.

Also the first mix he did in this style is good too:

Definitely going to check out World Receiver . . . . . .
