The last time the Yankees had a starter age 22 or younger win a game at Fenway Park was in 1964 when Mel Stottlemyre threw a six-hit shutout.

Nice comeback win for your boys, Harold. That's a tough one to take for Tigers fans.

Re: MLB 2008
Great pitching from both sides last night. The only run came off a shitty little squibbler from Gi-ahm-bi with the shift in gear. Joba looked very very good, but so did Beckett. I'm happy all-around, as I love a great pitching duel more than anything. Just wish we could've taken it from the Yanks' bullpen. Ah well...

Can't see how Gentle Giant doesn't like Wakefield...From the preview:
"Boston starter Tim Wakefield (6-7, 3.69) has been pitching excellent ball since the start of June, compiling a 2.60 ERA and lasting beyond the sixth inning in each of his last nine starts, although he has only a 3-3 record in that span. The knuckleballer, who turns 42 next Saturday, yielded three runs in 6 1-3 innings in a 10-inning, 5-4 loss at Yankee Stadium on July 6.
Wakefield gave up four runs -- his most since May -- over seven innings Sunday, getting charged with a 5-3 loss to the Angels at Los Angeles."
Get this man some fucking RUNS!

Beckett wasn't anywhere near as good as Joba last night, he was lucky to only give up the one run.

If MLB operated a little more like the WWF (or whatever the hell it's called now), you'd see Pedro or Derek Lowe drill Joba during the next batch of interleague play.

Linebrink's having an MRI on the back of his shoulder, not a good sign.

Meanwhile, the Sox had Manny get both knees MRI'd last night, just in case he couldn't remember which one is supposedly sore. The local scribes are going bananas.

love Marte, know little about NY's prospects but I think you'll be happy
Re: MLB 2008
the deal helped with the stretch run this year, but Cashman is looking ahead.
Nady means that Abreu and his bloated deal are gone after the season, and with Marte, what looks like maybe the best bullpen in baseball right now is pretty set next year with the good lefty they haven't had in years. in the offseason, I think they go after one of Sabathia/Sheets/Burnett, and try to resign both Mussina and Pettitte to one year deals, so they can put Hughes and Kennedy both in AAA to start the year. they still have excess pitching depth in the minors and need to try to make a deal for a young 1B or OF, but they're in pretty good shape besides that.

Couldn't the Indians have waited until the Twins left town to deal Blake?
Re: MLB 2008
This may not be news to anyone, but the Rangers can fuckin rake.
Chris Davis, where the hell did he come from? He's batting 8th in that lineup, and he's got the highest SLG in the AL over the past month.

Re: MLB 2008
the Yankees have a chance to do something I'm guessing is extremely rare tomorrow: play three consecutive series against teams ahead of them in the standings, and leave each one having passed the other team (this time would just by percentage points, but still).
Oakland 51-44 to 51-47
NY 50-45 to 53-45
Minnesota 55-43 to 55-46
NY 53-45 to 56-45
Boston 60-43 to ???

Chavy's labrum is "shredded", probably out for the year, likely wont ever play third again, may consider a move to 1st in the future, says he's also considering retirement.
As unlikely as it may sound, I feel badly for a 27 year old millionaire, who hasnt actually worked in the past 3 years. Also I feel badly for Beane, after the Dye contract (largest in A's history up until Chavez) in which he had exactly 1/2 season of productive baseball. Its just a bad situation for both the A's and Chavez, and extremely unlucky. I suppose we make a hard push for LaRoche now, or another AAA or MLB ready 3B.

Re: MLB 2008
I'm not much of a LaRoche fan, but he should be available since they picked up Blake, you'd have to think. They've done little to indicate they really believe he's their 3b of the future.
Chris Carpenter will make his season debut Wednesday.
Current ML teams with a winning road record: Angels 33-18, Cardinals 28-23, Yankees 25-23, Phillies 27-25, Brewers 28-26
4 of the current division leaders (5 if you count the Cubs) have a losing record on the road. Tampa has 25 home games and 34 road games left.

Took long enough, but apparently Leyland has seen more than enough of Todd Jones as his closer.

Re: MLB 2008
Yeah Joba looked better, but Beckett did more than ok. Pitched out of some stuff when he had to, which is what he normally does. I'm not sure if he's still going through back problems, but he hasn't looked the same this year.
Alright, let's avoid the fucking sweep tonight. Lester FTW!
