In general Hugh's stuff can be uncompromisingly spiky, but once you're into it that's part of the appeal.
Hehe I'm pretty okay with spiky, Simon :)

I'll try to hear some of the things I haven't. Thanks for the recs.

I gotta say Joe, those free improv collabs don't do much for me at all and I like Davies a lot. Personally these are what I'd check out:
Gentle Fire
Warming up with the Iceman
Shoyzg
Tapestries.

Of these only Tapestries is going to be easy to find. I've got all the rest plus some unreleased and live things in my shares that you can feel free to check out.

I listened to this on the way to work this morning......I nearly forgot how madly in love I was with the man's music at a certain point in my life.

On the contrary, this good day comes after a long batch of terrible stuff I blindly bought 2nd hand from some shop in Paris.

schwimmer 4by4by7 (creative source)
elasi/sciajno right after (erstwhile)
optrum unknowmix 1 (headz)
filip/nakamura aluk (IMJ)
ekg/elasi group (formed)

what a waste of time...

I'm with you on the optrum record at least.

it's 'ielasi', FYI, and maybe once he's a doddering old man making singer/songwriter records, you'll be able to connect better with his work.

Oh man. Aside from the Schwimmer (which I've never heard) those are all CDs I love and listen to all the time! Even the Optrum, whether Jon agrees or not.

Maybe I should look up 4by4by7 now. Since it wasted your time I'll probably love it too!

the trick with Optrum is to turn the volume up and turn your brain off :D
