unemployed: nows your chance to devote the time you need to those longer feldman pieces, or niblock maybe. but if your unemployed and have drugs. just cozy up with a huge pile of merzbow and the like.

get one of those hour long Umm Kulthum recordings like Inta Oumri, Al Atlal, Salo Kalby if you wanna wallow abit in the mood and more importantly if you like or are open to Arab music. Wallowing abit as opposed to plain escape can be more helpful i believe. My Kulthum recordings helped me lots of times.

Love music from Middle and Far East.....do give me some links and names.

Today I heard this, which made my long 5 mile morning walk quite pleasant

Thanks for the tip......which Feldman pieces would you recommend?

I quite like Patterns in a Chromatic Field [hathut version], which I think is one of those OOP titles.....

Try browsing these pages, some of the Kulthum links here are expired but many are not.

i would check that feldman thread, lots of good recomendations.
but im very partial to the second string quartet.
it hasnt been mentioned in that tread, but one of my favorites, along with the viola in my life (though thats not a long one)
but, if you can spend the time with SQ2 its worth it.

actually SQ II was in my top 5 in the linked thread, although the Hat version is far preferable to the Mode one.

sorry, yeah i haven't read that in a bit.
i only know the mode set. i guess i gotta check out the hat version...
why is it far preferable?
should this move to the feldman thread?

I like the Fatima Mansions (IAM THE DEMONIAMTHE DEMONIAMTHE DEMONIAMTHEDEMON) and Microdisney I've heard. I recently got a copy of The Fatima Mansions (i.e. Coughlan) version of "Nite Fights", which is good fun. Which reminds me - the first 5 Scott Walker solo albums do the trick when I'm down.

I can't remember what i suggested the first time...
I've been listening to a lot of this stuff recently:

Cocteau Twins (Ivo, Alice, Wax & Wane, etc._
Sex Gang Children (Giaconda Smile, Freedom Street, Guy Wonder, etc.)
Slowdive (Blue Skied An' Clear, Souvlaki Space Station, Machine Gun, etc.)
Christian Death (Romeo's Distress, Electra Descending, Lost Minds, etc.)

I am like this perpetual bedroom-sitting teenager, and I just realised it. :o
