It's very good, seams like a natural continuation from The Naive Shamen, it's a little more restraint, but still clearly Youngs. I miss the heavy bass from Shamen, but that doesn't make this one bad or anything just different. He has yet to really disappoint me.

incredible collection of hiphop everyone i've listened to thus far has really impressed me with the quality of tracks from start to finish. allot of stuff i was unfamiliar with. I have to thank jon for the heads up in the rap thread

Free Base (Alan Wilkinson, sax; Steve Noble, percussion; Marcio Mattos, bass and electronics) - The Ins and Outs (2003).

Really good trio. Gritty, grindy low-bass bits, some subdued moments with electonics, and fierier outbursts in between.

Antoine Beuger - A Young Person's Guide to... (Slub)

Not seen this one mentioned here, liking it a lot.

Two lengthy pieces, the first a string octet that includes amongst others Taku Sugimoto on cello and Tetuzi Akiyama on viola... very beautiful stuff, dry textured notes coming and going in a somewhat resonant space, very little silence involved.

The second track is a composition for "an instrument with decaying sounds" played here on guitar by Taku Sugimoto. Kind of Sugimoto circa 2001, but obviously composed. Definitely one that fans of this area of music should pick up. Very enjoyable.

Which one is that?

I'm guessing its Loose Canon, a budget price two disc set of material from a few years back. I remember there being a handful of other good pieces on that one, though I'd have to dig it out and play it to say which ones. Spear is by far the highlight though.

Looking at my copy Schau its something put together a few years back by the Australia Council that says "For promotional use only" on it. I think Will G gave me my copy. I don't see it listed at Antboy, so I suggest dropping him an email to see if he has any left.

...but the only Samartzis on the comp is a Western Grey track called "After Hours"
