thanks! As for the tins they contain additional preparations: clips, bolts and clamps and small manipulators: aluminum tubes, bits of plastic, nails and random things that I don't really know what they are.

I never visit Iheartnoise, so that thread was new to me - I scrolled through all 26 pages, and experienced such an incredible variety of emotions. Everything from awe and jealousy to overwhelming tiredness and itchy discomfort.

A few things occur to me:
- lots of people's set-up looks exactly the same.
- lots of people that I've never heard of have some pretty elaborate gear.
- I have this unsupported suspicion that more = less when it comes to stuff like this. I mean, when you have 15435 metal pedals in series, what more can be achieved by having four singing bowls (or Speak and Spells) rather than three? I guess this stems from my lack of cash and space leading to me having to focus on simpler systems, rather than just greedily accumulating anything and everything I can get my hands on.

These are not value judgements, incidentally - I mean, taking the first point, how ubiquitous is guitar/bass/drums/vocals in rock? Doesn't mean it'll all sound the same, of course.

And the second point - well, there are so many things to say about that. What I'm not wishing to imply is that people who I've never heard of have no right to own elaborate gear - that would be absurd. I'm just fascinated to see how much stuff goes on totally under my radar. It's both exciting - lots of new music being made, most of which I've yet to discover - and tiring, for exactly the same reason.

Anyway, back (slightly) on topic - good to see some variety already in this thread. I'll post a picture of my Bruel & Kjaer charge accelerometer later when I can find it.

Ha! I'm right there with you. I'm not a big I Heart Noise man either, but I stop by every other week or so and check out the PNW and Gear forums. I don't make noise myself (at least not how they'd think of it) but there is some good stuff in the gear section that can apply. And of course as I mentioned above I do dig the Pictures of Gear thread. Mainly for all the reasons you mention, a lot of it is just ridiculous; a huge amount of resources and money being used to create a similar featureless wall of noise as some guy with a distortion pedal and a mic. But whatever, to each their own. I definitely wouldn't have wanted to absorb all that thread in one go

Yeah, I think most musicians are occasional guilty of worshiping their tools ( my self included

), but it can be taken to extremes..
I'm always curious on exactly how the tools are used. To me that's probably more important. But if you combine fetishism, a collectors mentality and eBay....WATCH OUT!!

I'm totally guilty of going apeshit and collecting way too much gear... I literally feel trapped by (a lot of) it at this point... my bedroom is getting stacked higher and higher and I'm losing more and more floor/shelf space...

I've been trying to get it smaller though...
One comment about pedals, I deffinitley have too many, especially when I use them all at once (turns everything into mush!!...) But I can understand people having such a variety because you really do get a lot of different sounds/characteristics based on which pedals you use (just as you would with guitars using diff amps/pedals), even just making walls of noise/feedback... I suppose it can all sound really similar if it's not the same person making the noise, but when I listen to my own stuff, I deffinitley notice the differences in my own stuff (even if it's minute) based on which pedals are used... It keeps stuff interesting to have options. Even just switching out a singular distortion you're using with just a mic can make a big difference.
Anyways, I never had batteries to get a picture of my last live setup, but it was several pedals (A self-oscillating distortion at the beginning) and a circuit bent Musini toy (seperate channels) going into my mixer.

I'll post an image of my latest setup sooner or later.

Robert, your setup is really pretty. Like an art installation. Good thing it's also got the sounds to back up its aesthetic presence

I've got plenty of older setup photos but I'll have to take a new one for this thread that better represents what I'm really up to lately. Maybe one of what I'm doing for the IHM Comp would be appropriate too...

The patch I been using recently:

Revolves around resampling an external input. In duo, a feed from the other player. Solo, usually a contact mic.

I finally got batteries in my camera, so here's the latest setup:

I was trying to get a more "road-friendly" noise rig, and I think it worked out great. The only problem is this pedal configuration doesn't sound very good for anything!... Another case of me being too over zealous and trying to cram every possible effect into a single setup. I think it would be better with at least 1/3 of the redundant pedals taken out (two flangers-- wtf?)

I also need some new "gross" effects... my old ones are getting boring/overused.

And a piece of advice: The Metal Zone is nice, but totally overrated-- don't let anyone tell you otherwise, sonnnn.

I used to have a toy drum kit like that. It was obliterated during one particularly energetic recording session. My recorded output during the ownership of these drums was of a consistently poor standard.
